Failed to login with custom upn of trusted domain

Hi there!

I have a connection server in DOMA.

There are users in a trusted domain DOMB (one-way, outgoing, non transistive).

I started the Horizon Client and establish a connection to a desktop pool.

If I login with user default UPN like   Testuser@domB.com   the authenticcation works fine.

Then I changed the account to use the custom UPN "@domB.us"

If I try to login with custom user upn like   Testuser@domB.us   the authentication fails.

Does anyone know why it fails or if it is possible to configure the custom upn to be recognized by Horizon?

Regards

Ulli

App Volumes Manager install issues, ODBC switching to SQL Server (10) Driver

$

OS: Server 2016 Datacenter

AppVol: 2.14.0

ODBC Driver: SQL Native Client 11.0

SQL Server: 2012

I am having an issue with a fresh install of App Volumes Manager. In advance I created the ODBC connection for svmanager using SQLNC 11.0 drivers and it connected successfully. The service account has dbo schema applied and db_owner permissions for the database on the SQL server.

Attempt 1: Run the installer and enter the information to make the connection to the remote SQL server. Press browse for the database name and it fails with SSL error: Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server 'server.fqdn.'. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (SECCreateCredentials()).] SSL Security error. (18)

Attempt 2: Enter the database name, select overwrite existing, then Next. SSL error:  [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNELIB]SSL Security error :Error occured, error number:-2147467259Error location:Open DB

Attempt 1 does not create an ODBC connection, however, Attempt 2 results in the installer overwriting the existing svmanger ODBC entry and replacing it with the SQL Server (10.0) driver. This fails due to SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 being restricted.

Does anyone have advice on how to get App Volumes Manager to make this database connection? I tried the installer from App Volumes 2.14.0 and 2.14.2.

Update:

Attempt 3: I had the SQL admin provide an AD service account db_owner permissions and then made that service account an Administrator on the AppVol server. Logging in under the service account I was able to create an ODBC connection and successfully connect with the Integrated Windows authentication checked. I attempted AppVol install with the Connect using option set to Windows Integrated Authentication selected and received the same errors.

Windows 10 upgrade to 1809 fails

Trying to install 1809 on a Win 10 VM without snapshots and update fails consistently for both 32 bit and 64 bit. Error reported is 0xC1900101 - 0x30004 - Installtion failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during INSTALL_RECOVERY_ENVIRONMENT operation.

From what I read this is a driver issue. Running vSpehere 6.5. Anyone have any tips to overcome this?

32 bit vs 64 bit guests

Just wanted to ask this question.  I am running 2 hosts.  I have about 30 workstations and need to make the move to windows 10 from windows 7.  Currently the windows 7 machines are all 32 bit.  i am having a hard time finding any information on any benefits of deploying 64 bit guests if there is any.  Should i stay with 32 bit guests or move to 64 bit guests.  Thanks ahead of time for the replies.

I need to Re-IP both prod & dr SRM servers as well as vsphere replication appliances, is there a formal set of steps to achieve this easily? There does not appear to be a documented process from start to finish... vsphere 6.0 & SRM 6.0

Get-tagassignment

Hello there.

11.0.0.10336080 VMware.VimAutomation.Core

I want to get tag assignment of few VMs. And it works properly for single VM:

But if I want to get tags of two VMs:

I get tags of ALL vms in my vSphere lab. How so?

None of other structures of "foreach" doesn't help me, e.g.:

$vms=get-vm | ?{$_name -like "*cent*"}

foreach ($vm in $vms) {get-tagassignment}

Gives me the same result - tags of all vms in my lab.

Update: ehm, it's pretty weird, but

get-vm -name cent* | get-tagassignment (and new-tagassignemnt too)

works fine. I though get-tagassignment should work with every object which this comandlet gets from pipe. How is is even work with the whole bunch of objects (vms in my case) without "foreach"?

Script to verify activation of VM Windows License

I have deployed over 50 VM's via powercli Script and noticed the customization on some of the VM's didn't activate windows license. Is it possible to run a powercli script on these 50 VM's to see which VM's completed with windows activated or not? This would save loads of time without having to check every VM individually.

Deploying Microsoft Failover Cluster using VMware Cluster-in-a-box setup - what are the disk requirements?

$

Hi

I'm deploying a Microsoft Failover Cluster using 2 VMware vm's. The setup I propose to use is "Cluster in a Box".

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-651-setup-mscs.pdf

Image4.jpg

Based on this site, I have assumed that the disk format requirements are:

Image3.jpg

When I look at the following VMware sites:

It only seems to talk about having the disk in "eagerzeroedthick" format and the separate SCSI controller, it doesn't mention "Independent - Persistent" or "Multi-Writer".

Site 1

Site 2

Image1.jpgImage2.jpg

Does the disk need to be "Independent - Persistent" and "Multi-Writer"?

I'm interested in this as we use Veeam to do a server level backup and so having a persistent disk prevents this.

Thank you.

UPDATE (October 2nd, 2018)

ATTENTION PRODUCTION SUPPORT CUSTOMERS

With the release of Skyline Advisor, Production Support customers will no longer receive an Operational Summary Report (OSR). Production Support customers can view all their proactive findings and recommendations within Skyline Advisor. You will no-longer have access to the OSR download portal, nor will you be able to download OSRs from within Skyline Advisor.

----------

The Operational Summary Report (OSR) provides you with the Findings and Recommendations proactively identified by Skyline. You will receive an email notification each time a new Operational Summary Report is available for you to download.

Premier Services customers: You will continue to receive your Operational Summary Report (OSR) as part of your regular engagement with your Support Account Manager/Engineer. This is an additional benefit to you as part of your Premier Services contract that includes regular, interactive discussions and consultative recommendations from a dedicated VMware Technical Support Engineer. Premier Services customers will not be able to retrieve their Operational Summary Report using the link below. If you have any questions please contact your Support Account Manager/Engineer.

Production Support customers, download your Operational Summary Report here:

Download Your Operational Summary Report

Use your My VMware account to login and download your Operational Summary Report. The Operational Summary Report contains a Deployment Summary, a Recommendation Summary and the individual Findings and Recommendations discovered by Skyline.

  • The Deployment Summary provides you with a high-level inventory of all the objects associated with the corresponding vCenter Server or NSX Manager.
  • The Recommendation Summary helps you understand where your most critical potential issues exist, so that you can proactively begin resolving these potential issues before they become problems within your environment. Each Finding is given a severity level of Critical, Moderate or Trivial. For each vCenter Server and NSX Manager, a summary for
  • Each potential issue is provided to you as a Finding and Recommendation. Each Finding contains a description of the issue along with recommendation to resolve the potential issue. These recommendations could include Knowledge Base articles, best practices, white papers or some other form of official VMware documentation. Each Finding has the following properties:
    • FindingID: Each Finding has a unique FindingID that allows you search for additional details related to the Finding.
    • Date Actioned: The date the potential issue was discovered by Skyline.
    • Priority: Critical, Moderate or Trivial, based upon the potential impact the issue could have on your environment.
    • Number of Findings: The number of objects that could be impacted by the potential issue. If you have more than 1 vCenter Server and/or NSX Manager attached to the Skyline Collector, the number of objects for each vCenter Server and/or NSX Manager will be displayed.
    • Issue Description: A description of the potential issue
    • Recommendations: A Knowledge Base article, best practice, white paper or other form of official VMware documentation that provides you with additional details about the issue as well as step-by-step for how to resolve the potential issue.

When you are ready to begin remediating a Finding within your environment, you can use the rules.zip file to find the details for each of the objects potentially impacted by the potential issue. For example, you are reviewing a Finding within the Operational Summary Report and see that 5 objects could be impacted within the vCenter Server or NSX Manager. However, you don't know which 5 objects. Open the rules.zip file, search for the unique FindingID associated with the Finding you are reviewing, open that file and you can now see which 5 objects (ESXi hosts, virtual machines, distributed switch, datastore, etc.) are impacted by that Finding.

You can also use the unique FindingID if you have a question about the issue and/or recommendation within the Skyline Community. This enables the Technical Support Engineers moderating the Skyline Community to identify the particular Finding you have a question about as well as further helping you remediate the potential issue.

Disclaimer: The processes, methods and content utilized and/or provided for the duration of the pilot may not reflect the final implementation of proactive support with Skyline services for Production Support entitled customers. The delivery of the Findings and Recommendations through the Operational Summary Report may not reflect the final implementation of proactive support with Skyline services for Production Support entitled customers.

I apologize for the very basic question.

Using a VCSA 6.5, how can I list all the scheduled tasks as I used to do with vCenter 5.5?

Cannot type (using keyboard) on vSphere Web Client

$

This is very strange:

I just deployed a new vSphere 6.0 VCSA and am using the webclient (currently Firefox on Win 10) to configure the system.  When I create a new object, there are dialog boxes that require me to input data; for example "New Distributed Port Group" prompts me to input the port group name.  The problem is that the web client is not receiving my keystrokes.  The workaround is everytime I run into a dialog box requiring keystrokes (such as inputting an object name, etc.) I have to click the Windows start button (changing focus away from the browser window) then re-click on the input box and begin typing and it works normally.... until the next dialog box is displayed where I have to click away, then return to finish entering data.  I've seen this before on another completely separate system but never chased down the solution.

Anyone else seen this and have a recommendation?

ESXi 6.5: frequent 'Lost network connectivity' after upgrade to U1

$

Our ESXI6.5 worked fine for several months.

The uplink to the physical switch is done by 3 physical NICs (vmnic3, vmnic4, vmnic5) in failover configuration.

Load balancing mode: explicit failover order

Network failure detection: Beacon Probing

Notify Switches: tried both Yes or No makes no difference

Failback: Yes

With the upgrade U1 installed we get every few minutes messages like:

Lost network connectivity on virtual switch "red". Physical NIC vmnic5 is down. Affected portgroups:"red".

The funny thing is, that the affected NIC changes from time to time. Any of 3 NICs show the Errors for a few hours before it changes to the next one.

Sometime 2 of them show the Errors alternating.

I don't think there is a hardware failure because any of the NICs show this behaviour and the actual connectivity is most of the time fine.

The statistics of the connected physical switch shows no Errors or Disconnects on any of the 3 ports who are connected to the physical NICs.

Any idea ?

vRA 7.5 Upgrade PreCheck fails IIS Server Not Responding

$

I am running the PreCheck to upgrade from vRA 7.4 to vRA 7.5 from vRSLCM.  It fails on only one item:  IISServer: IIS Server Not Responding on the IaaS Windows server.

I love the Error Recommendation:  "The IIS Server is installed and running, but does not respond.  See if prerequisite checker has other errors."  But, as I said, there are no other errors, just this one.

I have rechecked all of the pre-reqs in the installation manual https://docs.vmware.com/en/vRealize-Automation/7.5/com.vmware.vra.install.upgrade.doc/GUID-624C4494-6FC5-4446-88B4-61D7897FEE66.html.  I have also verified and followed the instructions in KB 2138781 and KB 59658  (which are virtually identical).  Still no love.

Any help would be appreciated.  I would like to know just what this check is checking?
