xp on vmware unable to access local network

I have been using VMWare player for some time now on a Windows 7 64 bit machine to run 32-bit XP.  There have never been any problems connecting to the internet, but now I need to connect to the local Windows network, and specifically to two Linux backup machines that use samba. I can do this in two stages (backup to host, then backup to Linux m/c's separately), but this is awkward.

 

I have tried:

1. NAT and bridged network connections. Both connect to the internet, in NAT can ping the samba machines via their ip addresses, but cannot resolve their names. In bridged mode, I can't ping the Linux ip addresses.

2. Tried setting WINS = Yes in samba (down by printer settings ie not as server). No difference.

3. Tried a native XP machine on the network - it sees the whole network including the Linux machines.

4. tried setting up a virtual W7 machine. I behaves more or less similarly to the XP VM.

 

I am obviously missing something basic, but have spent over a day on this, including searches for answers without finding anything.

 

Any suggestions gratefully received!

vCenter 6.7: Uploading Files to Content Library after changing SSL-Certificates (SSL error)

Hello,

 

a few days ago i changed the __MACHINE_CERT of my vCenter Server to one trusted by my client. (Issued by my own CA). I also added my own CA-Certificate to the vCenter.
Everything works fine, no certificate error in browser.

 

But now i tried to upload an .iso File to a newly created Content-Library. This failes with the following error shown in the vCenter Log)

Im using vCenter 6.7.

 

The import of library item e058b94e-29bd-4808-8add-c2547dc3e0f5 has failed. 
Reason: Error transferring file isofilename.iso to 
ds:///vmfs/volumes/5c23df69-f7a0c5da-307b-b8ac6f8ad266//contentlib-e128a4fa-a745-4ec2-9649-d2e93f12b3b3/e058b94e-29bd-4808-8add-c2547dc3e0f5/isofilename.iso?serverId=ca6785de-8a3b-4a46-b10a-aef692176f36. Reason: Error while uploading to datastore (ds:///vmfs/volumes/5c23df69-f7a0c5da-307b-b8ac6f8ad266//contentlib-e128a4fa-a745-4ec2-9649-d2e93f12b3b3/e058b94e-29bd-4808-8add-c2547dc3e0f5/isofilename.iso?serverId=ca6785de-8a3b-4a46-b10a-aef69
2176f36): SSL error.

 

Before i changed the certificate to my own, the content-library was working fine. Is there any other Certificate i have to replace?

 

I also tried to reboot everything. (Its just a lab server, so no worries.)

 

Can someone maybe help me?a

Hypervisor 6.7U Licensing with 2 physical cpu

Hi Everyone,

 

I'm trying to assign hypervisor 6.7u license to host with 2 cpu sockets and get the following message:

 

"This host has more sockets (2) than the provided license is valid for (1), please provide a different license"

 

On the hypervisor page I see "Recommended minimum: dual socket with four or more cores per CPU"

 

Any idea how to generate the appropriate hypervisor license?

UI Extends Across Three Monitors

Hi,

 

I am a student at TAFE using this and some prompts such as the "Are you sure you want to shut down" dialogs will always extend across three of my monitors two of which are 1440p and one which is 720p, I cant resize the window and it always happens even on a fresh installation of windows.

 

I am willing to provide anything needed to fix this issue.

Import OVF with .ISO not working

Hi,

 

Trying to import an OVF which has .ISO files attached to it, and I can only click "Next" if I don't include the ISO, but then it will say that there's a file missing..

 

 

This is without the ISO-file:

 

Using 9.5.0.0, has anyone else encountered this problem?

Will try to upgrade to 9.5.0.1 tomorrow and see if that resolves the issue.

what is difference between Concurrent Storage vMotion operations per datastore" and "Concurrent Storage vMotion operations per host"

Dear all

Hi

 

A couple question about maximum configuration :

 

Number of Concurrent Storage vMotion operations per host  in vSphere 6.5 is :2

Is that means if i had 10vms on my esxi host and want do sVmotion from local disk to shared storage in the same time can sVmotion just 2 vms that each of them has one vdisk ?

 

2- What does this mean ?

 

Concurrent Storage vMotion operations per datastore

 

Actually what is difference between

"Concurrent Storage vMotion operations per datastore"  and  "Concurrent Storage vMotion operations per host"

Is in NSX still this 1:1 bridge mapping to map logical interface to one distributed portgroup? I need to map logical interface to many portgroups, because I want to use many differnt VLAN-s together for ingress. Only for egress I have enough to maps logical interface to one portgroup, for fixed VLAN out

Remove-NetworkAdapter from multiple VMs

Happy New Year All

I am stuck with below script for removing vNIC from multiple machines, it works fine for one VM (got it from one of Luc's older posts). There is no space at the end of VM name in the text file.

$VMS = Get-Content "c:\servers.txt"

ESXI 6.7 0 Which vSphere client?

I am wanting to test vSphere Web Client, but can't find it. Is this part of VCenter Server and only on purchase ?

 

My mate is running vSphere client at work, but as far as i know he hasans't got vCentre not Appliance.

 

Anyway, i tried vSphere Client 6.0 U3, but i got an error while logging in.

vcenter update manager: possible to exclude hosts from baseline?

Hi,

 

I have a main host (Dell PowerEdge) and a backup host (esxi VM in workstation 15backup to move VCenter to during updates). I have a bunch of baseline for the poweredge stuff (OMSA, OMIVV, etc.)

Now the baselines flag that the esxi VM is not compliant, which makes sense since its not a poweredge server.

 

Is there any way to assign baselines to a specific host or exclude hosts from baselines?

I have searched but couldnt find anything.

Automatic restart of esxi6.7 host,How to find out why?

Hi,

I have 4 new servers(HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10)(Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5118 CPU @ 2.30GHz).

I installed esxi6.7 for them.

Then they restart at irregular intervals.

 

The first server，about restart 2-3 times a day.

Second server，about restart 15-20 times a day.

Third server，about restart 4-6 times a day.

Fourth server，about restart 1-2 times a day.

 

There is no warning before restarting.

Every time it's a sudden restart.

The day before yesterday, I installed centos7 on the second servers above, and now it has been running normally for more than 2 days.

So it should not be the problem of the server itself.

How can I find out why they are restarted when they install esxi6.7?

where to download vmware player older version

Hello,

 

I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 for a while with VmWare Player 7.1.6. I just opgraded to Linux Mint 19. I tryed to install a new vmware player (version 15) but it does not support my cpu. An older version (12) does install, but does not start. If I start it in terminal then I have an error indicating that soms .so needs to be renamed, but I cannot since the name where it (according to the message) should rename to already exists.

 

So I think I have to find older versions. Since all my VM's are in version 7.1.6 I think that's the preferred version to install?

 

But I cannot find it.

 

Can someone help me solve this problem?

There is no space for virtual disk xxx.vmdk

Hello,

 

One of my virtual machines has given the error "There is no space for virtual disk xxxx.vmdk. Please clear the space and click retry or click cancel to terminate.

This is an error I've experienced for the first time.I'd really like to know how to go about it.
