Hi all.

I have reconfigured my vcenter 6.7 to repoint yo the external PSC due to activate the enhanced linked mode.

Now when i reconfigure the site recovery manager 8.1.1 to  repoint to the new PSC the wizard show error “Unable to find a vcenter from the platform service controller”.

All works fine. Both PSC and Vcenter with custom signed certificate. Only the Site Recovery Manager has a problem.

Thank you for your help.!

Best solutions to Backup&Restore

Hi everybody,

I need your advice to set up a backup&restore solution vmware, paid or free.

I currently have the following configuration:

  • Server : HP ProLiant ML350 Gen9 2xE5-2650v3 2.3GHz 10-core 2P 32GB-R P440ar 8SFF 2x800W PS ES EU Tower Server.
  • VMware : VMware vSphere 6 Essentials Kit for 3 hosts (Max 2 processors per host).
  • vSphere Web Client : Version 6.5.0 Build 4944578

There are three vm on the server and I would like to set up a backup and restore solution.

Here my need :

I would like to perform a full backup of each VM each night to a NAS(synology, asustor, qnap? etc..) on the same network and make a monthly copy of the baclups on the NAS to a NAS in Switzerland.

I have several questions:

Is it possible with VDP? or should I take another solution, example: veeams, OR nakivo ??

How are VMs transferred to the NAS? FTP? iscsi? nfs?

How does VDP work, you have to create a vm VDP? ditto for veeams solution? or nakivo ?

The backup is directly copy on the NAS or on the vm VDP or vm vCenter?

I would like a simple solution to automate backup and restore in case of crash. I have not yet bought the NAS (except the NAS present in Switzerland, an Assustor).

I am in the middle of the analysis phase and I am not yet mastering the concept of backup under VMWare .. I know that there is a multitude of information on the internet but I would like to have your opinions. I would not stupidly install a solution that will not be robust enough over time.

If you have good ideas (best solution, a good NAS), don't hesitate

Thanks

Vcenter error 503

Hi !

I have a problem with my VCSA server (v 6.0.0.2)

The server storage was full and I had to delete some *.log files to start the server.

But when I restarted the VCSA, I try to connect to the web page of the vSphere Web Client, this message is displayed :

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http20NamedPipeServiceSpecE:0x7f92c30900f0] _serverNamespace = / _isRedirect = false _pipeName =/var/run/vmware/vpxd-webserver-pipe)

I checked the running services with the command service-control --status and the result is :

VM Console only loads for administrator permission?

I'm trying to create more limited permissions in our vcenter environment, but every role I assign my users to, none of them have console permissions and receive the below:

A server error occurred.

Unable to connect to MKS: Permission to perform this operation was denied.

Check the vSphere Client server logs for details.

My role is as follows:

The only role that works is administrator.

vsphere_client_virgo.log is not showing me much, beside me getting a lot of the following:

[2018-12-11T20:25:01.863Z] [INFO ] e-console-message-pool-79825  c.vmware.vise.vim.commons.mks.tomcat.RemoteConsoleMessageInbound  Encountered EOF character, sleeping for 100 ms.

Problem creating a new VM through the vSphere API

$

Hello,

I'm using the following (quick draft )python code to try to create a VM:

[Python] import atexit from pyVim import connect from pyVmomi import vim import - Pastebin.com

But it does not work. The server response after uploading the disk is:

'Not a supported disk format (invalid sparse VMDK header)'

Which is really strange, because I'm uploading a vmdk file that was generated by the server itself (when I created a new VM through the vSphere client), so it should really be valid. (I added the vmdk file as an attachment)

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Can't start conversion with standalone converter

Hi,

Im facing a problem with vmware vcenter standalone converter. So I installed it locally in a server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2. I tried with verison 5.5, 6.0.0, 6.1.0 and 6.2.0 and all of it give error.

When I connect and put the credentials and IP of the physical source machine (Linux Centos 6) it starts to connect, but stays for a while (10 o 15min) with the message: Retrieving source machine information.  Just to later send an error message: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine.

I extracted the logs and look up for solutions. I did apply all changes I could find in vmware support page or other sources, but still the problem couldn't be solved.

I'm attaching the logs and hopefully you could help me out with a solution or guidance of where the problem could be.

Unable to create the installation medium.

Trying out VMware Fusion on Mac (Mojave). Trying to create A Sierra VM.

Getting this message and can't get past this. Tried moving Installation files, rebooting and killing Install in the disk utility.

Is there something else I'm supposed to do?

Crickets....

So it turns out that when my Mac updated itself to Mojave ( I had auto update disabled), it re-enabled csrutils.

I had to disable csrutils with ctrl-r.

You'd think since that is a requirement for VMware to create VMs, it would be more obvious as a required step.

Guest Memory vs Virtual Machine Memory

Hello,

Can someone explain what the difference is between

Guest Memory

Virtual Machine Memory

As you can see in the print screen there is a huge difference between "Guest Memory: Active Guest Memory" and Virtual Machine Memory: VM Consumed.

What is the reason for this?

Thx

I see this square displaying part of the guest desktop when in unity mode.

The sand is the host desktop, and the grey apparently is from the guest desktop, but it is a different color from the guest desktop.

I also have this strange green X in the guest desktop, no matter what mode.

I was just going through the video RDSH image preparation video in Horizon Cloud on Azure.  It's  mentioned after downloading the Windows 2012 R2 /Windows 2016 Datacenter editon from Azure Market it joins to the domain does the bootstrap  automatically after downloading the Daas Agent.

Question:-

I think n Soft layer it's recommended that Image shouldn't be join to domain.  Is that some thing different here?

Thanks

Best backup solution for VMware ESXi?

$

What would be the best backup solution for VMware ESXi? I do not

necessarily want a live replication but I want to have image level

backup for my vms (stored on NAS). In case of a disaster, I can recover

that from the image backup quickly.

I have about 60 vms.

Is Veeam the best choice? They seem to ask $500/socket, which will cause a substantial investment for me.
