Containers Are Poised To Quash VMware

$
0
0

Enterprise application development has reached a tipping point. I predict in 2019 new enterprise application development will rapidly shift away from legacy virtual machines (VMs) and strongly toward containers and Kubernetes container orchestration. VMware’s hypervisor-based business model is now under direct assault by the cloud industry.

Every public cloud service provider (CSP) has its own proprietary services. But the future is multi-cloud, which means creating common services between private clouds and proprietary public clouds. In the long-term, the ability to create applications that can run on any cloud, private and public, means adopting a standard container architecture, implementing a standard set of container accessible services and using Kubernetes orchestration.

Dell Technologies Reverse-Merger With VMware

Dell Technologies announced early in 2018 that it might reverse merge with  VMwareVMW -0.3% to re-list in the stock market. That announcement kicked off an increase in investment in private cloud infrastructure across the datacenter industry. The shareholder-approved deal could close as soon as December 28.

IBM’s Proposed Acquisition of Red Hat

In late October 2018,  IBMIBM -3.04% announced its intent to acquire  Red HatRHT -0.3% (Red Hat shareholders will vote on the acquisition in January 2019). Red Hat’s OpenShift container solutions have been certified by server vendors Cisco Systems, Dell EMC, Ericsson, Huawei, Lenovo, NEC and Nokia, plus private clouds IBM Cloud Private and Microsoft Azure Stack and public clouds  AmazonAMZN -2.47% AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.

Unable to connect NSX to vCenter

Hello there,

Installed vCenter Server 6.5 (external PSC), ESXi 6.5, NSX 6.4.4.

I created user "nsx" and grant him administrator privileges and used it for register NSX in vCenter and PSC. In vCenter appliance appear icon "Networking and Security" but when I opens it i see error:

No NSX Managers available. Verify current user has role assigned on NSX Manager.

In registering NSX to vCenter process I used following manual page: Register vCenter Server with NSX Manager

Next step in documentation requires access to appliance. I tried to register NSX with other user (administrator) but without results. Please, what I doing wrong?

How do I escalate an open SR? My assigned agent is ignoring me...

Sorry if this is the wrong place but posting anyways.

I opened a View related ticket in late-July.  The agent last made contact with me August 3rd.  I opened a second ticket since I was getting no reply from him.  Unfortunately the second ticket got assigned to the same agent and he is still not reaching out to me at all.  I found his managers email address via his signature but his manager is even ignoring my emails.  I can't get a response from anybody.  I've never had this poor service in my life!

It's not a critical issue so I don't feel the need to sit on hold forever on the phone but it looks like I might end up having to do this.

This is just crazy that two open SR's get me literally 0 replies from my assigned agent AND his manager.

Kiran N & Varghese Kurian... you are not doing a good job at your job!

-end rant-

But seriously, what other options do I have?  I'm either going to call the 800 or open another ticket and hope it doesn't get assigned to him again.

Route based on IP hash for Windows Server

$

Hello,

I have some questions about a configuration on my ESX cluster.

So, here my configuration :

3 HP servers with VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 8169922

A vcsa on 6.7 version

On each ESX, we have 2 network cards with 4 nics. The configuration is :

2 actives nic (1 per network card) for the management network ; load balancing with "Route based on the originating virtual port"

2 actives nic (1 per network card) for vMotion ; load balancing with "Route based on the originating virtual port"

2 actives nic (1 per network card) for virtual machines traffic ; load balancing with "Route based on IP hash" and configuration of etherchannel on Cisco side.

The last two nics are free, maybe we use them later for vSphere replication.

All the nics are connected to a Cisco switch.

My question is :

why I have an important loss packets on a VM Windows 2016 or Windows 2008 when I use "Route based on IP hash" ?

we have seen loss packets with tools like mtr command line or smokeping software ; we are loosing packets during a test copy of 26go folder.

Nothing with a linux VM (redhat).

when I change the load balancing mode for the virtual machine traffic to the option "Route based on the originating virtual port", we don't see loss packet, everything is fine on Windows 2008 or Windows 2016.

Do I have to change some options in the VMXnet driver ?

What's the problem with Windows ? It's not compatible with "Route based on IP hash" ?

Thank you for your replies.

Hi there.

I have an RHEL 6 VM running in VMWare Player 4.0.0 build-471780 on a bridged network.

Attempting to ping my own local machine (10.121.1.19) from the VM results in the following output:

However, attempting to ping other machines on the network from the VM results in expected output:

I also have captured tcpdump snoops, showing two ping replies coming in. This snoop capture is attached. The packets are identical at the IP layer and above. The ethernet layer shows one reply coming from my local MAC address -> gateway MAC, and the second reply from gateway MAC -> VMWare.
I am running VMWare Player Windows 7 64-bit. Interestingly enough, the same version of VMWare and VM image running on Windows XP 32-bit does not show any duplicate ping replies.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Horizon 7.5 Persona problem

After upgrading to Horizon View 7.5, we have some intermittent problems loading the roaming profile. If we downgrade to 7.4, this is not an issue.

We are using Windows 10 2016 LTSB on one 32 bit pool and one 6 4bit pool. We have this issue on both pools. Have anyone else had any issues like this?

Hi, I have a small home lab with no Vcenter, but wanted to integrate Amazon Echo voice automation for simple tasks, ie, start / stop / restart certain VM's, etc. I have seen many tutorials online but they all seem to involve Vcenter. Can someone point me in the right direction to integrate with just Vsphere 7.6 please?

Regards.

I am having issues getting the Sound Blaster 16 drivers working on Windows 3.1 and DOS 6.22. When ever I try to install the drivers I get the following error:

Wrong Base I/O Address or Audio Card is not detected at 220H

I have tried all possible combinations and nothing works. Also, if I try to enable the sound card on the settings page the "check mark" keeps disappearing after trying to enable the sound card. I am running OS X 10.11.4 and Fusion 8.1.0 on a Mac Book Pro 10,2

Here is a copy of the sound settings from my .VMX file:

sound.present = "TRUE"

sound.virtualDev = "sb16"

sound.opl3.enabled = “TRUE”

sound.autodetect = "TRUE"

sound.baseAddr = “0x220”

sound.dma16 = “7”

sound.dma8 =”1″

sound.irq = “5”

sound.mpu401baseAddr = “0x330”

Very High pNIC inbound packet loss rate counters... host issue or switch issue?

$

Hi,

I've just rebuilt my all flash vSAN cluster on version 6.7 and swapped to 10Gb NICs and switches and I am seeing very high pNIC inbound packet loss rate counters on all my hosts (under host, monitor, performance, vsan - physical adapters).

Packet loss counters range from 40% to 600%

I've struggled to find anything during my searches to help point me in the direction of where to look.

This is a 4 node home lab so unfortunately I don't have the luxury of logging a support ticket.

Can anyone help point me in the direction of where to troubleshoot further? Hosts? Switches?...etc.

Thanks!

In case the specs of my environment help I've got them below... all items are listed on the HCL.

2 x Dell 8024F switches stacked with 4 ports

2 x 10Gb DAC cables from NICs to switches (1 cable in each NIC goes to each switch)

4 x HP DL20 Gen9, each of which has:

HPE 546SFP+ Dual Port 10Gb NIC

HPE H240 HBA

HPE 400GB SAS 12G SSD cache disk (HPE branded HGST HUSMMxxxx)

HPE 600GB SATA SSD capacity disk (HPE branded Intel S3500)

vDS configuration/VMKernal Configuration wise for vSAN:

Dedicated port group, with own VLAN

MTU 9000 (Tried 1500 to start with... my environment supports both)

Route based on physical NIC load

Both NIC 1 and 2 are active uplinks

Supermicro AOC-S3108L-H8iR

http://alpha.fm/pub/capture_7902611.png

I am running VMware Workstation 14.0 on a Windows 7 laptop (i7, 16 GB RAM).

I just updated an Ubuntu guest from 16.x to 17.10 and removed & installed VMware Tools.

But now when I resize the window in which the guest is running, the contents don't resize and instead I just get a black border around the guest Ubuntu system's desktop.

Is anybody else getting this issue?

Is there a fix?
