I'm trying to get ahead of the curve, and get the upcoming Microsoft Edge Beta (Chromium) working in DEM.

In Google Chrome, we use the Group Policy -- "Enable the creation of roaming copies for Google Chrome profile data" to create a single Profile.db file which DEM captures.

Microsoft has not enabled this delightful little feature...but wants you to use their new Sync function.  This new Sync function uses Azure and has a ton of prereqs.  I cannot get it to work smoothly.

Has anyone got Microsoft Edge Beta (Chromium) working with DEM yet?   It goes live later this month, and I see ZERO discussion on it.

And before you all start hating on Edge...this new chromium version is WAY better that the Edge of old.   Try it.

I'm currently just looking to capture the "First Run" file (Local AppData) & the User's bookmarks... I'll build it up from there.

I wasn't sure if DEM will have it builtin as a Windows policy, or what.     I thought I'd start this thead for a discussion point.

i have three firewalls running on my esxi server , i enabled auto-start on those machines but when i restart the esxi host nothing happens until i manually start the machines. how do I filter by Tags in the HTML5 version of the Web Client?

I'm working in the 6.5 version (VCSA) (Build Number 9451637).

With the flash-based vSphere Web Client it's easy to filter by Host, by Cluster or side-wide by specific tags, whereas the HTML5 version will show me either nothing or just the global use of VMs with a specific tag in the whole vCenter.

Isn't it possible to filter by an hierarchical object other than the whole vCenter or is this perhaps a limitation of the 6.5 HTML5 version?

Here you see the 'classical' view you know (and love?) from the Flash client. The filter applies to the selected host only and the VM list can be narrowed down by selecting specific tags (Auto-complete is active in the "Tags" form field).

Here is the same host selected, only difference is that I switched to the HTML5 Client.

The thing is that I cannot extend the filters or don't know how to filter by a specific tag in the circled form field "Filter".

Any help / answer is appreciated.

The Horizon Broker Agent is no longer sending data to the Horizon adapter on the vROPS. This stopped working suddenly.

I have made a new appliance (vSphere 6.7) which I am using to manage a few VMs.

My colleagues should be able to login with their Active Directory-account, but somehow I can't get this to work.

I had it working on an old vSphere Appliance, but I needed to create a new one (change in FQDN).

The appliance joins the domain just fine, same for adding it as a identity source. A user is also able to login with AD-credentials.

When I want to add permissions on a specific VM, Folder e.t.c., it asks me for the username (which it also finds) but when I hit save, it says the user localos\username can't be found.

This error is right, but I selected the domain, not the localos. This makes that I cannot add permissions.

So, for example:

I want to give user 'john' in domain TEST.hq rights on VM X.

When I click 'add permission', select domain A and click John's name from the dropdown, and click 'Ok' it gives me the following error:

The user or group localos\john cannot be found.

How can I fix this?

BTW, I redeployed a new instance. The VMware-SSO-domain is vsphere.local.

I have a need to have or Desktop Support team occasionally reboot VM's when they become unstable. They don't have access to vCenter and are not allowed access to vCenter, so I would like to create a script that would prompt them for the name of the server that needs to be rebooted and then use the credentials from a service account that needs to be encrypted to reboot the server.

When I recompose VDI's, some of the user's default apps get reset to "TWINUI". For example, "Photo" gets reset from the Windows Photo Viewer to TWINUI, and when trying to change it back, it just closes the settings window without making any changes.

Has anyone experienced this issue or know of a fix? Thanks

Does anyone have any experience with the AMD v340 in an ESXi 6.7 / Horizon View 7.x environment?   We have had a support case open with AMD for a week and, thus far, not very impressed with their support.   We have not yet gotten to the appropriate engineer even though we have, essentially, a show-stopper issue.   VMware says they cannot help us because the v340 is not on the ESXi 6.7 HCL, even though AMD says the card is fully supported by 6.5U2 and 6.7 U2.

Looking for any hints or help...

We can get only ONE of the virtual desktops to actually talk to the card.   Once one desktop is talking to the GPU, no other desktop can.

After moving my automation scripts to a newly built Win 2016 server with (PowerCLI 11.5.0 build 14912921) I noticed that everything was taking much longer than before. After digging in I saw that it was "Import-Module VMware.PowerCLI" that was causing the problem. Digging deeper with Proc Explorer, I see that trying to talk to Akamai... I assume looking for module updates?? Well this server has no internet access.

I am receiving an error I am unfamiliar with when attempting to install VCSA 6.5. I obvisously have to reinstall to restore, and have done so, matching my Host IPS. My (2) hosts were successful, Step 1 is active (can access 5480 management page). Using localhost no DNS. If someone has seen the below error before, can you please let me know what may need repair to successfully achieve installation?

I'm logged on as cloudadmin. When I go under users and groups the add user is grayed out when I select vmc.local or mydomain.com.

Also, when I look at groups it says You have no privileges to view this object or it does not exist.

I can't add a mydomain\user-group to the global permissions.

Any suggestions. This is a brand new environment running in HLM mode.

Hi all-- wanted to describe progress on an update to my former threadripper system.

Starting point: 4 Vm's  on a threadripper 1950, each with GPU passthrough (1 x 2080, 3 x 2070).  64 GB RAM, esxi 6.7 U3. System was quite stable (see prior thread).

Target: Threadripper 3970x (double the cores), 128 GB RAM, on an Asrock Creator TRX40 motherboard.

I started by validating the new hardware under a temporary (non-virtualized) windows build.  Stuff worked.

BIOS settings used: defaults, except:

Changed some fan settings to make them quieter

Turned on XMP

Turned on SR-IOV

left PBO OFF (default, but I changed it to disabled. PBO sucks up huge amounts of power for little performance benefit, to say nothing of validation!)

Used current BIOS version, not the beta for 3990x.

esxi installation: Used previous installation.  This had passthru.map entries for AMD and NVIDIA as detailed in my last post. It also had the epyc-recommended configuration change previously recommended (which I removed) and preinstalled aquantia NIC driver.

Moved 2 x m.2 SSd's  from old into new system. System booted nicely into esxi. All hardware passthrough vanished as expected. Of note, *neither* of the NIC's on this board has a native driver. I used the aquantia driver and live off the 10Gb aquantia.  I have no idea if there is a realtek Dragon 2.5g driver out there.

Redid the hardware passthrough.  All GPU's passed back through to their VM's, yay.  Only two of them would boot, boo. Eventually, after much gnashing of teeth, remade three VM's from scratch: they would all keep crashing immediately upon booting windows.

This was interesting.  Esxi would report that the GPU's had violated memory access and advised adding a passthrough.map entry, which didn't fix the problem.  Changing BIOS on the host to remove CSM support and enable 4G support, and enabling 64 bit MMIO in the vm didn't fix it either.  A new vm with fresh windows install worked.

There were several other interesting changes from previous system:

disabling msi on the gpu made them keep crashing , unlike previously when it fixed stuttering

No cpu pinning or NUMA settings were used or needed

The mystical cpuid.hypervisor setting remains required to avoid error 43

With these caveats, I got 4 bootable VM's each using the Nvidia card's own USB-c connector for keyboard/mouse. 8 cpus/vm.  Which led to the next problem, which I haven't been able to solve:

The mice/keyboards would all intermittently freeze for moments to minutes, and sometimes not come back. Lots of testing inside of windows showed no cause. Interestingly, the problem was 1)worse with a highend G502 mouse, and 2) much worse inside of windows UI -- and never happened for example in demanding real time full screen apps.  I was sure it was going to be some bizarre windows problem. Rarely (every few hours) systems would crash completely (while idle!) with the same memory access violation.  Also rebooting one of the vm's would make other vm's momentarily stutter. None of this ever happened on the 1950x system where these controllers were reliable.

I eventually worked around the problem with the motherboard's USB controllers.  There are 5: 2 x Matisse, 2 x Starship, and 1 x asmedia.  The Matisse ones are lumped in the same IOMMU group and won't pass through (They are perpetually "reboot needed.") The Asmedia chip worked with no problems (usb-c port on the back of the motherboard).  The Starship USB 3.0 controllers both worked IF you had a passthru.map entry moving them to d3d0 reset method.  Otherwise, booting a VM with one of these controllers failed AND crashed a different VM with a GPU memory access violation and the controller then permanently disappeared until the system was then powered down (not just a reboot).  Wow, talk about bad crashes.

Using these 3 motherboard controllers an 3 vms appears rock stable (I haven't tested the fourth yet.) One of them has 64but mmo enabled which probably isn't needed.

Things I haven't gotten around to testing yet:

1. Does isolating the vm to one ccx fix anything?

2. If only one vm is running, does the usb-c nvidia controller become reliable?

3. Does turning off XMP or using the latest beta BIOS change anything?

Other advice -- I'm obviously waaay off of HCL here-- but don't even try DRAMless SSD's.  Datastore *vanishes* under high load. Bad. Same thing happens with my OEM samsung until I updated the firmware, but that's another story well documented elsewhere.

I'm really puzzled by the nvidia usb-c thing. Would also be nice if the Matisse controllers worked.  Otherwise mostly pleased-- many of the kludges needed on older esxi versions and the 1950x with its wacky NUMA configuration are no longer needed and the new system is *much* faster.

Hope this helps someone else.  If anyone can tell me what's going on (or at least that it's not just me) would be much appreciated. I speculate it's a BIOS bug.

I have a dedicated linked clone pool for about 50 users. The pool is set to refresh on logout. When a user logs out, the status of their desktop in View administrator changes to "Disconnected." The machine doesn't refresh itself, it just sits there in that state. If the user tries to log back in, they get an error message stating that there are no available desktops in the pool (since they are assigned only that one). I have to manually reset the VM in order for it to become available again. Has anyone run into this before?

Server is running version 6.1, and agent version is on 6.0.2

I already open firewall ports between hosts and composer but still got the same problem.

A bit of context...

For VM traffic only one Distributed Switch is configured and presented to all hosts in all clusters. VM's will then connect to Distributed Port Groups as required and communicate with other VM's on same or different Distributed Port Group connected to the same Distributed Switch irrespective on which host/cluster they reside.

For Management I think the same as above would apply best (one Distributed Switch for all clusters / per Data center) for ease of management.

now the question if you agree with the above...?

For vSAN, a Distributed Port Group is created and the vmkernel/s attached to it. Hosts are expected to communicate to the vSAN storage which is local to the cluster. For this reason should a Distributed Switch be created per cluster and presented to all hosts in the cluster?

I'm fairly new to VMWare. I have set up a server with VMWare ESXI and have created two logical devices that are controlled by a RAID controller.

1 x 6TB RAID 5 for storage (hopefully) - currently a datastore [activedata]

1 x 2TB RAID 1 for virtual machines - currently a datastore [datastore1]

I have installed Windows server on the 2TB datastore and I need to add the other data store a shared storage. I have been beating my head against the wall over this. I have no way to create a drive on the second datastore. Am I going about this wrong? Also, when I try and add an existing hdd to the virtual machine, there is none listed in the selection pool.

Has anyone successfully configured an external Ceph Rados GW to work with keystone?   Looking at the docs for Ceph it looks like i have to convert certificates to the nss db format,

mkdir /var/ceph/nss

but i'm not sure where to acquire these certs in VIO 5.1
