I heard that unmap was going to become a part of the 6.5, is this enabled or disabled by default? I run the unmap manually on my flash arrays but i have a couple of spinning disks SAN that have never had the unmap run on them and I am not sure what would happen if it were automatically run.

Port mirroring on vSwitch
Hello,
I have this scenario:
vSwitch0 -> vmnic0 --> physicalAppliance
|
|--> PortGroup0
| |
| |--> VirtualMachine0
| |
| |--> VirtualMachine1
|
|--> PortGroup1
|
|--> VirtualMachine2
I'd like to have that physicalAppliance'll to able to sniff all traffic generated from all VirtualMachines.
So, I've enabled Promiscuous mode on vSwitch0 (and on all PortGroups indirectly) and in this case any VirtualMachine is enabled to sniff the traffic generated from other two VirtualMachines, but physicalAppliance is not enabled. So, how can I configure vSwitch0 in order to enable port mirroring on vmnic0 (and on physicalAppliance indirectly)?

Unexpected Shut Down
Hi,
I have a hosted solution (they look after the hardware, I look after the VM's and Windows). Three servers DC, Exchnage 2010 and a Remote Desktop. I have very little experience with ESXi
The remote desktop has unexpectedly shut down this morning. It's happened before one or twice I think. Windows doesn't have anything useful logged. The ESXi warning logs for today are:

Get cluster name from VM with API via python script
I have a script to get a few details from VMware VSphere 6.0 on my VMs using a python script, but can't seem to find the cluster name anywhere with regards to a VM. My python script looks like this

Random "Pending Session Expired" issue with View v5.0 & PCoIP
Hello Everyone,
We have gone through the VMWare documentation & forums but unfortunately have had no luck with finding fix to this problem so far...
We have recently established a 300 seat VMware View v5.0 environment for a student environment at a university.
The system is generally running pretty well. However, we have been encountering a significant number of the following warning message in our View Console. These errors seem to occur randomly (maybe for about 10% of all login attempts);
- "The pending session on machine XXXXX for user XXXXX has expired"
Further investigation has revealed that
- The View Mgt console shows that the user has successfully authenticated and been assigned a VM... but after 15mins "pending session expired"
- If another user is later assigned the same VM by the View broker they are able to login and use it OK.
- Doesn't seem to be linked to the physical location/network of the client. All our clients are located in same few locations/subnets.
When i look at the console of an affected VM though vSphere Mgt Client;
- No logon event recorded in event viewer & no local profile folder has been created for the relevant user.
I can't see anything obvious that provides a clue about the problem in the PCoIP or View logs on the VM... Some sample logs are attached (the relevant time is around 2:49PM today 17th April).
- The following Windows application event log entries of VMWare View (in order)
- Immediately after user connection assigned to the VM by broker
- Needed to disconnect existing PCoIP connection during requestConnection
- PCoIP requested disconnect while busy !
- Closed PCoIP value doesn't match global value
- Needed to disconnect existing PCoIP connection during requestConnection
- 15mins after broker assignment.
- Pending portal logon timed out for user XXXX, wssm may have failed to start correctly, of the user was not able to connect and log in. Pending count left = 0
- Closed PCoIPvalue doesn't mathcn global value

Some additional details about our environment that may be relevant;
- We are using PCoIP protocol exclusively.
- Windows version of the View Client (running on Win7 ThinPC edition on re-purposed desktops).
- An F5 BIG-IP virtual appliance is being used to load balance connection requests between two connection brokers.
- We aren't using secure tunnel mode for the PCoIP connections (once connected the Client and Agent are talking directly).
- The golden master in Win7 x64.
- We are using linked clones... pool is setup to refresh VM on logout.
I was hoping someone might have some ideas or suggestions about this weird problem please ?.

2V0-622 Retake
I have to retake the 2V0-622. I used MeasureUp, and though it helped in the learning process, I don't think any of it was used for this test battery. I don't think I could have studied more, but the questions were just not what I expected. At least I know what I need to study for the next go around. I may wait until some useful practice exams come out.

Noob trying to create simple C# exe from SDK, can't find apputil.dll
I'm a fairly proficient C# and C++ Windows developer, and I'm getting started with this whole SDK.
Not being sure which one I need, so I downloaded VMware-vSphereSDK-6.5.0-4571253. The samples, even the main sample, in the "SDK\VMware-vSphereSDK-6.5.0-4571253\SDK\vsphere-ws\dotnet\cs" folder, won't build.
I ran the VMware PowerCLI powershell installation and was able to get VimService65.dll.
However, there is no apputil.dll. There is a vmapputil.dll, but that cannot be loaded as a Reference in Visual Studio 2017 b/c it complains it's not a COM component.
Any help to help me get started is much appreciated.

Delete logs from folder Cloudvm and Vdcs
good morning people, how are you?
I need a second opinion about deleting the logs in the folders located in / storage / log / vmware / vdcs and / cloudvm
If you delete the logs that I have inside these mentioned folders, will something more happen than losing the history?Will I have to restart a service after deleting the logs?
inside cloudvm I have the logs:
cloudvm = cloudvm-ram-size.log and service-control.log
vdcs = vmware-vdcs-gc.log and cls.log

Version Mismatch from Horizon Media provider for Skype on Mac
We just upgraded to Horizon 7.3.2 and windows clients seem to be working great so far.
I have two Mac users running 4.7.0 and they are getting a yellow bang with the notification version mismatch. Has anyone seen this? I can't find any documentation on this error.

We're seeing it across multiple script includes.functions
ServiceNow ticket opened; This error can be fixed by adding a line of code "request.setEccParameter('skip_senor',true)", but that would man changing a lot of plugin code. We have raised a HI ticket also for this but they are also giving the same solution and directing to check with vRealize support for the fix.

max number of items in an array attribute
hello I am using this code to read all the lines of a postgresSQL table (100 000 lines )

this works and in 5 seconds my result variable is filled with the 100 000 lines
but if the result variable is replaced by an array attribute of type any the script gives me the error

and if I reduce the number of lines to about 3000 it works but the workflow is very long (for exemple to log each value )

"Failed to start Create Volatile Files and Directories" during vCenter boot
Hi.
I recently came accros this during vCenter Appliance (6.5 latest path level) boot.
After some search it looks like it is related to missing ACL support in the filesystem.
Can anyone tell me how to enable this in the vCenter Appliance or how to solve the issue otherwise.

VSA 6.5 not showing up in Vcenter 6.5
Hi,
we upgraded the vcenter from 6.0 to 6.5 and then installed the VSA 6.5, all went well, VSA connects to the Vcenter, but the vcenter web client is not showing the VSA as a plugin, rebooted the Vcenter and VSA, but still VSA is showing Proactive support - log gathering = disabled. when i click on the "Proceed to configure log gathering and collection settings" it tries to open the vcenter setting but runs into an error:
Cannot navigate to the desired location.
Error details: Cannot retrieve the navigation path for extension com.vmware.ph.manage.data-collection.

PowerCLI+LogInsight API Filtering
So I have this issue with ESXi hosts where they randomly seem to stop sending SysLog to Loginsight in such a way that no alerts trigger anywhere, I just end up with no data until syslog service on the host is restarted. In the past when I was leveraging vCenter syslog, since it dropped everything into a folder on the Windows server I could just check last modified timestamp on the folder contents, then based on a certain delta indicating its been too long since any activity was written I could reach out via PowerCLI and restart the host syslog service. With LogInsight I don't have any folders to check, yet I do have the API so I thought it would be fairly simple to get a list of hosts and latest event time stamp. It turns out it's harder than I thought since I don't really understand how to leverage the API effectively. Does anyone have any URI examples of how I might get a list of 'source' with a latest event timestamp? I would even settle for just getting a list of unique 'source' names and ID's that I could then run through an array.
