GPU - Will it help with scrolling large Windows contents?
A quick question which I'm sure one of you clever folk can answer in a jiffy.
If we install a GPU in our server will it make the scrolling of contents in a windows smoother\less jerky ?
Our configuration:
- Windows 7 x64 VMs
- Wyse P25 zero client
- Connected over local 1Gb LAN - bandwidth no issue
- VMware View 5.2
- ESXi 5.1
- Client has large monitor with 1920x1080 resolution. The jerkiness is very noticeable when scrolling pdf documents in a Adobe Reader with the pdf pages at 2/3 or more the size of the screen.

ESXi 5.1 network adapters disconnect problem
Dear Community!
I have a problem with an ESXi 5.1 (1065491 build) server (IBM BladeCenter HS23): yesterday the network adapters suddenly disconnected and I can't reach the server through the network, but on the switch side there were traffic on the ports. I've restarted the network adapters but it didn't solved the problem, so I've restarted the server with Remote Control, but there were 3 servers which turned off because of the restart. After the restart the adapters are connected again and now I can reach the server through the network. This problem has occured in the past once to another machine.
What do you think about it? What will be the problem and the souliton?

VMware Player error on windows 8 64-bit
Hello,
I have a VMware Player 3.1.4 which runs correctly on windows 7 32-bit. The VM is used to operate my Windows XP Professional.
Now, I have installed same version of VMware player on windows 8 64-bit to run my windows XP but am getting the following error:
"Cannot open the disk 'drive-0.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: A required DLL could not be loaded."
Same error is obtained on VMware player 4.0
May somebody please help me to solve my query.

hostd fails with a missing resource pool alert
hi , i have a dell power edge r510 server , with ESXi 5.0 installed in it .
in one of the VMs inside this server i have installed Vcenter ( i think it was Version 5.1 ) everything was stable till the database of the vcenter gets 10gb and crashed and i couldn't repair it . so i installed a new windows vps with vcenter 5.5 in it. and connected the server to this new vcenter again. so i have reconfigured resource pools and VPS users again in this new vcenter.
now the ESXi host shows as not responding in this vcenter. but all the VMs inside this esxi server are running without issues. and i cannot reconnect the host in vcenter , and i can't login directly to the ESXi via vsphere client and root password.
but i can login to the esxi via ssh or console.
from the console , i restarted the management services , but it doesn't help.
from the ssh i ran the following commands :
# /etc/init.d/vpxa status
vpxa is running
# /etc/init.d/hostd status
hostd is not running.
when i restart hostd , it says started , but after some minutes again hostd fails.
l # /etc/init.d/hostd restart

i have searched for the problem regarding localhost , kb , says check cpu usage being below 90 % which is fine in my esxtop , then said checking network ports and pings , they were correct too , then said to check /etc/hosts for 127.0.0.1 localhost entry , and checking /etc/resolv.conf and they were correct too. as i can ping localhost , and nslookup localhost returns 127.0.0.1
so i started reading the server logs and found this errors in vm-support output : hostd.log

how can i change the resource pool of that vm from ssh when esxcli do not work ?
I face this issue almost every 5 days recently that the server goes not responding in vcenter, rebooting the whole esxi server can solve the issue but it apears again.
I think the resource pools in vcenter do not sync correctly with the esxi configuration , as when i login to the server directly with root/vshpere it shows different configuration than what i see in vcenter !
and i cannot upgrade esxi host as there are about 10 important and stable VPSes running in this server which is my main server and i cannot have down times on this server or migrate the VMs to another server/IPs.
because i am not sure about the nic drivers/bios version compatibility with ESXi 5.5 and i fear if i update the ESXi from 5.0 to 5.5 i face other unknown issues/downtimes.

Log-on View RDP desktop denied
I made a Windows 7 template, in which I modified the Group Policy with domain admin to add authority to"Allow log on locally","Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services","Access this computer from the network".
But the thing is, I still can't log-on any single one of these Windows 7 Desktops except with Domain Admin. for example, I created an account TEST1 in AD, while failed to log-on these Windows 7, which says"The requested session access is denied".
What are we supposed to do?

Running Exchange under VMware 5
We are in the process of pricing out new server hardware to replace our out of lease servers running Exchange 2010. I am being told by our Exchange admins that the servers are not candidates for virtualization due to the size and load of both servers based on Microsoft's recommendations. I know that is rather vague and I honestly don't know if I agree with that evaluation. Can anyone throw out what types of situations would make putting Exchange on a physical server better than virtualizing it? Both servers will be running with dual AMD Opteron 6376 2.3GHz 16 core CPU's.

Да, написано, что нет прав. На папку даю права, даже анонимуса и гостя, захожу в виртуалку под административной учетной записью, монтирую NFS ( FileServer:/folder) и выдает ошибку. уже есть соединение текущей машины с другой папкой на том же сервере.
Помогите устранить данную ситуацию.

Private network between hosts in different regions
Dear guys,
i just have been asked if it would be possible that 2 hosts in different regions (EU-NA) can communicate in a virtual private network over the WAN.
To make that happen i was thinking to :
- import the NA host into a cluster in the EU vcenter
- create a tmp DVS and attach the 2 hosts to this DVS
- create a private VLAN PG and configure 2 VMs with this PG =>they just have to communicate each other, it's just a test
The question i have is the following : considering the 2 hosts are in different regions, would the traffic of the 2 VMs go over the WAN using the same DVS ?

Perfmon DLL in Vmware tools
I know there is supposed to be a DLL in vmware tools which allows you to add 2 metrics to the Perfmon ( Windows performance monitor).
The metrics are VM Memory and VM Processor. I checked vms in my enviorment that have Vmware tools installed and updated and saw that I can't add those metrics. They Don't exist. I tried also to Click Properties->Data and add from there but again they don't exist.
Does anyone know why?

VDS Test-Path
I've been using the script below to backup the VDS switches on some vCenters and it's been working with no issues.

I need to check if the backup has completed successfully though and this is proving a problem for me because the script uses the $_.name variable in the pipeline. I need to use the test-path command to see if it's there and if I do this outside of the working pipeline I lose the value of $_.name so is there a way round this?

High %lat_c CPU Latency for 1 VM
I have 1 VM that has a significant %lat_c/CPU Latency and it makes no sense.
I have found that CPU latency is made up of Ready, Swap Wait, and Power control issues. But all of these are under control:
No Swap wait at all, very low ready, and power management is fully off. (C-state and CE1 are both off in the bios and not reporting in esxtop) (Power is set for OS Control, esxi is set at High Performance and esxtop is reporting all CPUs at 100% P0 level) So it can not be power related. It is just this one VM. Not other VMs are showing this level of latency. Host totals are:
There are only 10 VMs on this host, 16 vCPUs, 704 worlds. The host is a dual Hex-core with hyperthreading (24 threads possible), 192GB of RAM. It is not the newest thing in the world, it is 2.5GHz Westmere processors. It is running ESXi 5.5 (without R1 so far). We have run it on a v55R1 host with the same results.
The VM is 80GB RAM and Dual proc averaging 65% to 68% CPU with a few spikes to 100%. So it really does need 2 procs and we are monitoring it to see when it will need a third. It is an SQL server and is using all 80GB of RAM and could actually use more. It is hammering the SAN pretty hard reading indexes (99% reads from SSD cache on the SAN). Active Memory is averaging over 70 GB. The entire hosts active memory is barely over 80GB. The other VMs are all pretty small.
What else could be causing 10% CPU Latency. Does this really mean that this VM is waiting for physical CPUs 10% of the time when it should be doing work? The performance of the MS CRM Dynamics application is not what we would like. We have been contemplating adding an SSD to the host to use vFlash Cache to bring the entire 350GB database to the host to offload the reads from the SAN, but while that would offload the SAN we don't really figure it will help performance of this VM that much since we are seeing nearly 100% of the reads coming from the SSD cache that is on the Nimble SAN.
Can anyone give me any idea what is causing this latency and how to resolve it.

Debo de virtualizar un Win 2003 con SQL que está ahora mismo en producción y me gustaría contrastar con vosotros los pasos a seguir, ya que no los tengo del todo claro...
Se que debería usar el vConverter, que se puede usar en la misma máquina o desde la red y después pasar la máquina a un Esxi..., ¿debo hacer algún paso intermedio? o mejor dicho ¿qué pasos me estoy dejando por el camino?

Do I need host drivers?
I have held off upgrading from my XP,but now I need to get with the times and drag myself kicking and screaming into the 21st century but I don't want to loose all of my old favourite games. So I want to clone my XP machine onto a Virtual machine on a ROG ASUS G750JH windows 8 laptop. (Im going for a clone because I dont think I will be able to find my original xp disc). My question is... Will I need all the relevant drivers (Graphics, audio, motherboard etc) for the host machine installed on the virtual machine. If so, I assume they will need to be XP versions of them. Sorry if this has been asked already, but couldn't find a thread with the same question

HTTP returns status code: 500(500)
This was previously working as I have two inventory uploads and a performance upload in the dashboard from the 23rd. But now when I trigger a data synchronization I get the above error on every file upload. What does this mean and how do I resolve? There have been no firewall or port changes in the environment.

USB Device Redirection, Splitting function

I have managed to split USB Function for Olympus Dr-2300 and it works fine. I have HID (button Control) being mapped over to the desktop whilest the Audio/Micophone/Speaker are left at the local machine. This is working all great, however I am trying to added another device... I have added the bellow VID/PID
