6400x1200 works with hardware version 8 but not 11

I am trying to configure a VM with a single monitor to 6400x1200.

Guest VM: Windows 7 SP1  Enterprise

Host VM: ESXi 6.0.0 3073146

This is the command I used under the guest OS

"C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\VMwareResolutionSet.exe" 0 1 , 0 0 6400 1200

It worked with Hardware Version 8 but when I try it on a VM with Hardware Version 11 it defaults back to 1024x768.

I have configured the video memory to 128MB

Here are the two workarounds that I have found so far:

Workaround 1

Unregister the VM from vCenter

Download the .vmx

Change virtualHW.version = "11" to virtualHW.version = "8"

Upload the .vmx

Register the VM

Workaround 2

Add 4 monitors in the VM's settings

Configure each monitor with a resolution of 1600x1200

Does anyone know why I can't configure the resolution to 6400x1200 with Hardware Version 11 ?

SRM testing with a full network fail over / disconnection

Hello

I am working for a client that is performing network fail over testing as part of an ongoing DR project. They currently use SRM to protect the primary site (well, a subset of VM's within the site), and have had no issues with an SRM test itself.

However, the project have been told that if network connectivity was cut between the primary and DR site, SRM couldn't be used to bring the VM's up at the recovery site as when the network connectivity is subsequently restored, the SRM database would have issues as both sites would believe they are the protected site, and I presume changes to the databases would have happened would be the reason behind this.

I was wondering if there is any advice on how to approach a full / proper DR test where the network is disconnected, SRM can be used to bring up protected VM's at the DR site, and then play happily when network connectivity is restored between sites please?

Might be worth noting that we are using VMware vSphere 6.0.0, SRM is 6.1.2.1, and during the DR test the primary site will continue to operate with skeleton staff on site.

Thanks

Hi All,

VCD HA(active and passive setup)

I have some queries about vCloud director HA setup.Could you please help

on this?

We have setup vcloud director software(VCD 9.5.0) on 2
VMs(active/passive) with Centos 7.10 also installed Postgress on 2
VMs(active/passive) with Centos 7.10.

Setup is as follows:-

VCD application Setup
2 nodes, with CentOS-7.10, active/passive
/Opt filesystem for vCloud binary installation used, which is managed
by DRBD to replicate to other node

Clustering software used
Corosync, pacemaker

Using pacemaker,Virtual IP will be assigned for https service.

DB Setup:
1) 2 nodes, with CentOS-7.10, active/passive
2) /var/lib/pgsql filesystem for postgresql-9.5 database, which is
managed by DRBD to replicate to other node
3) Clustering software used :
Corosync, pacemaker & DRBD
Using pacemaker Virtual IP will be assigned for DB instance

Can we go with this setup or it should be routed through NFS mount
point only ? Please let me know which approach is correct one ?

Thank you,

ovftool datastore naming

Hi All,

I got the following errors when I use ovftool to deploy a VM.

Is it the new datastore name for this newly deployed VM or some existing one which I should find somewhere?

Although I used the suggested name ds-01 and avoided this error. I am wondering why. Thanks!

Adobe Reader and Acrobat Customization Issues

When creating an App Stack containing either of the above mentioned products it seems that any customization is lost.  I have used the Adobe customization wizard to disable various features (online updates, online storage, etc.), and everything works properly on the provisioning VM.  However, once provisioning is complete and the App Stack that was created is attached to a VM the customization done previously is no longer in place.  Has anybody else experienced this issue?

Launching an preconfigured RDP link

I have a new Horizon env. with version 7.5 + App Volumes 2.14. I have an installed Windows 10 LTSB1607 image with applications.

I've placed an RDP connection on the desktop but when I double click it, nothing happens. MSTSC.exe works just fine and the link works when connecting to the desktop via RDP.

The issue exists only within the Horizon client.

Has anyone encountered this problem in the past?

The only mention I've found online is in reference to a custom scale factor being set. Clearly I can't just logoff and on again as the desktop pool is instant clone and the machine is deleted upon logoff.

Thanks

Upgrade Vsphere 6.0->6.7 and 6.5->6.7

Hello,

I am new to vsphere and would appreciate some help. I want to upgrade 2x vsphere host to latest 6.7 U1 version. Both are HP ProLiant 380 Gen9. Host 1 run 6.5.0 (Build 5310538) (image profile says (Updated) ESXi-6.5.0-4564106-standard). Host 2 - 6.0.0, 2494585.

I have downloaded this custom image 6.7 U1: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=OEM-ESXI67U1-HPE&productId=742

Can someone help with step by step process on the upgrade as I was unable to find out this in manual.

How to find backing Compute (vSphere Cluster) resource for a vRA Reservation (vRA + vRO 7.3)

$

I have a workflow that is able to enumerate all vCACCAFEReservations and pull some basic information (very difficult considering the complexity of the schema, but that's a different story). My problem is identifying the Compute resource, e.g. vSphere Cluster, for a particular Reservation. I searched the API explorer and can't find anything viable. There are no properties of the Reservation that would indicate a Compute resource and there doesn't seem to be a ClassId for "Compute". Neither the vCACCAFEFabricGroup nor vCACCAFEFabricGroupService are of any help. The only idea I have is to back reference either the network or storage vCACCAFEEntityReference data but this would require two hops, e.g. vCACCAFEEntityReference --> vCACCAFENetwork.getNetworkBackings() --> vCACCAFENetworkBacking.getComputResourceName().

I'm hoping there is something I have overlooked. Anyone done something like this before or have a better idea, or am I stuck with the two-hop approach?

Our vCenter is running 6.5 and I've managed to find the fields I need, but I am not sure:

  1. how to export these to CSV - the value in {} seems to need to be converted?
  2. also the results appear in blocks as opposed to a table

Chrome Constantly Refreshing Tabs on Mojave VM

$

On VMWare Fusion 11.0.2, I recently created a Mojave VM from the installer that was downloaded on my Mac host (Install macOS Mojave.app).  When I run Chrome on the VM, every tab constantly refreshes, to the point where it can take several minutes to type into any form on the page.  Even on the chrome://settings page, the screen constantly reloads and makes it difficult to perform any actions.  This is especially noticeable on Gmail login.

The Mojave VM has 4 GB RAM and 2 cores assigned.  When the flickering is occuring, the VM still has at least 1.5 GB available to it with a CPU load of ~60% User, and 14% system.  The Mac host still has 3 GB available, with a CPU load of 6% User, 23% System, so the host is not straining to run the VM.

VM: Mojave (10.14.2)

Move VMDK-Files from vM1 to vM2 with less free discspace on VMware-Host

$

Hello,

i have a little question about moving vmdk-files between two vMs. I dont have much free disk space on the vmware-host, it will be soon replaced, but i'm curious, if its possible.

For a better explaination what i would like to do:

VMware-Host: 2 TB disk space (1,5 TB used, only 500 GB free), both vMs on same Datastore

vM1:

1. VMDK 100 GB

2. VMDK 100 GB

3. VMDK 600 GB (should be moved to vM2)

4. VMDK 600 GB (should be moved to vM2)

vM2:

1. VMDK 100 GB

2. VMDK -> 3. VMDK from vM1

3. VMDK -> 4. VMDK from vM1

I can't copy the VMDK-Files 3 and 4 because there is not enough free disk space on the VMware-Host. I tried to cut a small VMDK-File but, the used space/size of the File will automatically be reserved on the destination server/vM. I think its working like this >copy file, reserve space on destination server/vM , complete copy, delete file on source server/vM, right?

Is there a real "only move" command avaiable? I want to separte the VMDK-Files of the vMs from another (every vM with files in its own folder, not linked).

Thank you for your help!

4 vCenter 6.5 Appliance with 4 External PSC Appliance - Upgrade to 6.7 Update 2 embedded PSC Process

$

Hello,

I am reaching out for some guidance on the best way to approach this situation.  I current have 4 vCenter 6.5 appliances all with an associated External Platform Service Controller appliance.  At this time they are not configured for Enhanced Linked Mode.  My plan is to implement that feature when I upgrade to vCenter 6.7.  It is my understanding that vCenter 6.7 Update 2 now supports enhanced linked mode for embedded PSC deployment.  I would love to simply my deployment and move to an embedded PSC model.

With having 4 separate vCenter appliance and 4 external PSC appliances, what is the best approach to upgrading my environment?  I am assuming all the vCenter servers are using the same SSO domain, which would have been the default during the initial setup, which I did not perform.

Would greatly appreciate some insight and options available to make this happen.

Thank You

Slow copying data from vm to vm on same SAN

I wanted to start with my question here.  I am trying to copy a large file about 30GB from one vm to another on the same Cluster & SAN and I see a huge burst of speed 500MB/s then it slows down to about 20MB/s and stays till it completes.

I see about the same thing from one folder to another.

But, If I copy that same file to another Cluster that has a different SAN I see about 300MB/s consistent.

Can someone help point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Jason

When I check for updates or work with specific dialog boxes from VMware Workstation Pro 15, I get this scaling bug that extends the dialog box across my multi-monitor setup:

I am currently using a 4K monitor (200% scaling) and a 1080p monitor (100% scaling). The setting to automatically fix blurry apps is also disabled:

I am on the latest Windows 10 1809 update with the latest November cumulative update applied to this system. Whose at fault here? Microsoft? VMware?

App Volumes Slow Initial Application Launch

The first launch of any application presented via App Volumes is slower than locally installed applications.  However, after the first launch the launch time is normal.  The environment is as follows:

App Volumes          2.15

UEM                       9.6.0

Horizon                   7.4.0

OS                          Windows 10 1803

I had the same behavior with previous versions of App Volumes (2.14) and UEM (9.4 and 9.5).  I have tried both user and machine assigned App Stacks with the same result.

Hi Techies,

Need your urgent help. Today morning when i tried to booted some of the vms in my environment its fails with the below error.

error.jpg

My environment is : vcenter 5.5 with Esxi host 5.5

Also i tried with migrating this server to another host. its migrated successfully.. but when i powered it on its again failed with the same error and again vm went back to the same host where it was before migrating.

Anyone seen this issue. ?

Also i tried to search it out over KB i found this. VMware KB: ESXi/ESX host reports VMFS heap warnings when hosting virtual machines that collectively use 4 TB or 20 T…

Didnt tried this yet as i am not sure if its the correct resolution for this issue.

Anything apart from this i can look.

Thanks.
