    Configuration: using VMware Workstation 10.0.2 (WS10) on Windows 8.1 host with two displays (internal and external via HDMI, both with same Full HD 1920x1080 resolution); with a Xubuntu 14.04 LTS guest.

     

    Problem: when I have WS10 positioned on the Win 8.1 host external display (note: using Extended Desktop internal + external), the mouse doesn't work properly in the Xubuntu 14.04 guest (it seems off and flickers), hindering any further action in the guest using the mouse. However, when I drag WS10 to the other display (the internal display), then the mouse works properly in the guest OS; drag again to external display area and it doesn't behave any more.

     

    Details host: VMware Workstation 10.0.2 build-1744117 on Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit (Build 9600) 6.3.9600; graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000, driver v10.18.10.3621; cpu: i7-3537U, mem: 8 GB; internal display: digital, CMN15bb, 1920x1080 (60 Hz); external display: digital, AOC2269, 1920x1080 (60 Hz); there is also a NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M on the laptop, with GeForce 337.88 driver (though I think this graphics card is not at play in the issue described).

     

    Details guest: Xubuntu 14.04 LTS installed using: File - New VM; custom, HW: WS10; iso:"...\xubuntu-14.04-desktop-i386.iso"; name: tst / user: tst (plus some password); VM name: tst; processors: 1/1/1 (defaults); mem: 1024 (default); NAT; I/O: LSI Logic; disk: SCSI, new virtual disk: 20 gb - split - tst.vmdk; installed using "Easy Install is installing Ubuntu" and following Xubuntu defaults; problem with mouse flicker/mispositioned occurs directly after first install (that is: already on the first login screen; and also logged in without applying the latest software updates after first login); and this problem remains after fully updating the guest OS (forced via terminal using "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade").



    First seen using the "WS10, Edit, Preferences, Input, Cursor, Optimize mouse for games: Automatic" setting, changing this to "Never" didn't change the behaviour seen. However, changing this to "Always" did: the mouse pointer then quickly goes to the top left corner (when input is grabbed) and stays there when the VM guest is used on the second/external display... while working as expected on the first/internal display. Dragging the WS10 window (with the VM guest running on a tab) from one to the other clearly shows the different behaviour on the two displays. For those reproducing: use [Ctrl]+[Alt] to release the mouse from the grabbed state... as you might feel stuck in the VM otherwise.

     

    In my opinion, this might be a regression; as I recall that my setup using the second/external display for the VM guests was working fine till about a week or so; now the regression could come from WS 10.0.2 or from updates to the graphics drivers and/or Windows 8.1 host... the above details are showing the latest greatest installed trying to resolve the issue by first updating all of the host (system) software; and in that process the host machine has had a few reboots, which didn't alter the problem/experience described.

    We are currently testing vcloud director 9.5 with HA/load balancing

     

    Our setup:-

    VCD1 & VCD 2 for HA/load balancing

    VCDDB1 & VCDDB2 for HA/load balancing.

     

    My doubt:- Should i use Rabbitmq(on a seperate VM) ? it is must ?  or  When using multiple VCD cells for load balancing/HA, the cells can communicate directly to each other via AMQP without Rabbitmq VM ?

     

    Please advise.

  • I'm trying to import all settings from an ini file to a fresh deployment of UAG.

     

    The advanced settings for identity bridging like realm or keytab settings are not deployed when these are defined in the ini file.

    All reverse proxy identity bridging settings are also not applied when I deploy a fresh, new UAG....is this function not implemented within the ini file import?

     

    If I configure a UAG manually and export the settings as a JSON export it seems like more advanced properties are available, but as far as I am aware it's not possible to deploy a fresh UAG through powershell using a JSON file for importing the settings, correct?

    Hello,

     

    We've noticed an event that gets logged against almost every one of our VMs every day on about 25 minute intervals.  An event description example is " 10/30/2018, 7:29:32 AMGuest operation authentication failed for operation Delete Directory on Virtual machine <VM name>".  We think this started after upgrading vROPs from 6.7 to 7.0 as that was the only thing that changed in our environment but can't confirm.

     

    The environment is vCenter 6.5 with  ESXi, 6.5.0, 7967591.  The VM hardware versions range from 9 to 13.  Hyperic is also loaded in vROPs but isn't set up to monitor all VMs.

     

    Has anybody seen this to be caused by vROPs or a plugin installed in vROPs that tries to interact with VMs?  Are there additional logs we could look at to see the source of these operation attempts?  We would like to find out what is causing these operations and stop them.

    Event messages appear with the wrong labels. Even though I have the latest version of VCSA 6.5 U2e, messages still appear in recent tasks with a * .label tag that I have not been able to resolve. I would appreciate all the support you can give me to solve this problem. Also try to do a clean installation of the VCSA in the same 6.5 U2e version and after restoring the database and starting the vcenter services continue with the same problem.

  • I have replaced the motherboard in my computer and now have solid state drive.

    I still have the old HD installed in the machine as the F drive.

    I can load the VMPlayer but it doesn't find the virtual machine or the SW I had on it.

    What do I need to do to get going again?

    Hi All

     

    I am running a 3 node Hybrid vSAN cluster. Each host has 2 disk groups (1 SSD and 5 HDs in each disk group). vSAN is set to to manual mode for adding disks to storage. Somewhere along the line a mistake was made where on 1 of the hosts, disk group 1 has 6 capacity disks and disk group 2 has 4.

     

    I need to move 1 disk from group 1 to group 2.

     

    So far I have done the following:

     

    1. Removed disk from disk group 1 - Full data evacuation (What would the difference have been if I chose ensure accessibility?).

    2. Allowed vSAN to resync objects

     

    I now want to move the disk over to disk group 2.

     

    1. Do I need to clean the disk first? If so should this be done at RAID level or vSAN (Storage Adaptors - Erase Partitions on the Selected disks)

    2. Do I need to "claim" the disk or "add a disk to the selected disk group"? (What is the difference?)

    3. Once the disk is back in the group, will vSAN start moving objects onto it or is it recommended to do a manual disk re-balance?

    4. Is there anything else I should be aware of?

    I am using Fusion 5.0 to run ESXi and keep getting this message when I start up ESXi.  It is rather annoying.  Is there any way that I can supress the message ?

    I have requirement that has come through that needs me to start looking at whether my VMware environment (vCenter, ESXi, SRM, vSphere Replication, vROPs) can handle IP version 4 and IP version 6 in a dual configuration. I cant seem to find much official around this. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Does anyone know where that info is? The read me that's included with the hot path juts covers the install process.

    I have a set of ConfigurationElements under a category that are used as a temporary cache of information - but there are times when a specific "cache element" is no longer valid and can be removed. I have the caching process automated which creates the appropriate ConfigurationElementCategory and child ConfigurationElements, but cannot find anything related to removing a ConfigurationElement from a ConfigurationElementCategory using the API explorer.

     

    Is this not possible? Or am I missing something?

    I have had KMS setup and working for quite a while now, activating my office 2010 and 2013 pools (we have to keep 2010 on a certain pool for a particular app that works with it). I recently updated a couple of pools to office 2016 so i setup the KMS host to actovate 2016 also. All working well, or so i thought!

     

    I now have discovered my 2010 pools are saying they are not activated and whatever i try i just can't get them to work with KMS. I can see on the KMS host that office 2010 is there:

    But whenever i try and activate the count does not increase, it stays at 1 and on the client trying to activate it says the standard error about the count reorted by KMS is insufficient. However, when i run ospp.vbs /dstatusall i get an error saying the product key is not available. I have checked the registry and the keys are in place for the KMS server under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform.

    So, i thought i'd quickly create a temp snapshot using a MAK key and recompose the pool, but users now get prompted to activate the key online and when they click to do so get told that this action requires admin privilieges.


    Any ideas appreciated. KMS drives me to despair with office but i thought i had it all working. Are 2016 and 2010 not supported on the same KMS server? Do i need to reinstall the 2010 kms host.

    Please help.

    I've successfully installed Office 2016 x32 on a parent image using the Office Customization Tool which properly installed with the customized settings, KMS key included.

    All seems to work after installation, and product is activated.

    When I attempt to log into a VDI machine, I run "cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus", which provides me with the KMS server name and also verifies that the product is activated, but when I open Word, Excel, or Powerpoint, and look at the Account tab it tells me that the product isn't activated and freezes for about 5 minutes, then it refreshes itself and displays that the product is now activated. I've been trying to solve this for over a week, but have been very unsuccessful.

    I've had significant battle with the errors that come up when Hyper-V is running in Win10-Pro.  The links to "Manage Windows Defender Credential Guard" in the error message do not lead to the solution, it just wastes everyone's time.  We found this answer through pure luck...

     

    Just run cmd as Admin and type

    bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off

    and REBOOT

     

    this will fix

    and if you need hypervisor for something like windows emulator tools in visual studio just re-enable when you need by typing

    bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto

    and REBOOT

     

    Credential Guard is enabled by hypervisor, and when you disable hypervisorlaunchtype, it disables it. No there is no way to use VMWARE Workstation 14 with this enabled, because they don't support the use of stubs to access hardware through their VMs yet. Anyway, microsoft virtualization sucks so, disable it and keep using VMWARE as it is the fastest one on the market.

    This document says we have to move update manager to a new host machine before upgrade.  I guess this is referred to vcenter v6.5 when it did not support update manager as embedded option on the vcenter appliance.  My situation is the update manager is installed on PSC windows server, not on the vcenter.  I also pay very close attention to the migration tools, I do not see anywhere I can drop or add an option.  Since it is an appliance, I assume I could not add/install to the vcenter appliance.  I do not want to install/setup/keep a separate appliance just for update manager.  Please advise my upgrade path.

    We have Windows 10 and Windows 7 Desktops all running Horizon View Agent 7.4.0.  These are all instant clone desktops.  On first login the Windows 10 desktops usb redirection fails with the error USB redirection is not available for this desktop

     

    If you then disconnect and reconnect after like 30 seconds of USB initializing (which is a long time compared to Windows 7) the USB devices will show up properly.

     

    On  our Windows 7 desktops the USB redirection works properly every time and is much faster to initialize.

    I’m using VMware Workstation Pro 14 on Windows 10 x64 with Windows and Linux guests. 

     

    I installed a Logitech Ergo MX trackball.  The scroll wheel works perfectly on the host OS, but does not work in the guest OS. This works fine with a Microsoft mouse – the scroll wheel works in both the host OS and the guest OS.

     

    Is there a way to make this work in guest instances?  Should this be reported as a defect in Workstation?

    Horizon View Admin newbie here. We have a Customer Service Call Center dept that is all VDI. We've had several reports of static on the phone lines and audio dropping out for a split second. Happens on both incoming and outgoing audio (both the rep and the customer have to ask each other to repeat themselves frequently). I've ruled out all physical causes (network cables, headset). Tried rebooting, recomposing the virtual desktops but issue persists. Anyone have experience with issues like this or any suggestions on where to start with troubleshooting beyond what I've done already?

    I am a current VCP6 holder and am rapidly approaching the expiration date on my certification. I originally obtained the VCP from the 6.5 beta exam taken in January 2017. The current exam is 2V0-622 which is the same test number that I took to recertify in 2017. Do I need to retake the same test in order to renew my certification?

     

    This seems like a waste of time and money to recertify on the same exam and vSphere version...
