Hi, I don't be a linux guru, so I did install on Ubuntu 10.4 gtk2 and python2.7. After that I installed the Horizon Linux client 4.10. It is working with a View V7.4 Windows infrastruktur with PCoIP but not on a other infrastructur with the same View Connection server V7.4 version. How can I troubleshoot this, I did'nt find the logs?

Thanks!

Instant Clones and Syncplicity

I am wondering if anyone has had success either redirecting Syncplicity's local folder or in some other way successfully deployed the Syncplicity app using UEM on an Instant Clone? I downloaded the .ini file for Syncplicty but it's pretty barren and was hoping someone else has been able to use this app with an Instant Clone so I don't need to reinvent the wheel. Thanks!

Guest Memory vs Virtual Machine Memory

Hello,

Can someone explain what the difference is between

Guest Memory

Virtual Machine Memory

As you can see in the print screen there is a huge difference between "Guest Memory: Active Guest Memory" and Virtual Machine Memory: VM Consumed.

What is the reason for this?

Thx

Does anybody know if it is possible to authenticate with the vRA REST API using a username in the Domain\Username format?  The format username@domain works fine, but Domain\Username generates this as a response:

Mac doesn't awake from sleep when Fusion has not been stopped before

I am running Mojave on my iMac and Fusion 11 with Windows 10.  When I bring my iMac to sleep while Fusion is still active, it doesn't awake after a while and a forced reboot is the only option.  It does awake after a short while.  It also awakes normally when I bring Windows to sleep beforehand.  Fusion is then saving the virtual machine state before I bring MacOS to sleep.

In short, MacOS Mojave does not awake after a while from sleep when Fusion has not been stopped before.  When I click on the mouse or push the power button, nothing happens and I need to reboot.

I had VMWare look at it but it has not been resolved.  I upgraded my Mac memory to 16 GB so I could assign 4 GB and 2 processor cores to Fusion/Windows.   No result.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Shrink hard drive size in Fusion

How can i shrink hard drive in VMWare Fusion 11?

I accident changed it to pre-allocated 100Gig which filled up my SSD. I managed to shrink the volume n Disk Manager back to 70Gig but Fusion complains "there is not enough space," when i uncheck pre-allocated checkbox.

Resize a Hard Disk

I wish it were that simple... What are my options?

I even thought abut adding another drive -- 30Gig, copying everything to it,  (including all hidden files etc) then reaming the larger drive.

Hi Team,  After upgrade to Fusion 11 I found out copy paste does not work between macOS (10.14.1) and guest Windows 10. I have reinstalled VMware software in guest os. Replacing Existing Host with New Host/Hardware in a cluster and upgrade to 6.7 Update 1

$

Hello,

I am preparing for hardware refresh and upgrade to 6.7 update 1 from 6.5 U1. I plan to to replace the hosts first and do the vCSA and esxi host upgrade later.

I just have one cluster with three hosts. I am replacing all the esxi hosts with new hosts. I plan to keep all the configuration exactly the same - host name, management ips, luns etc.

Here is the plan:

1 . Change DRS setting to manual

2. vMotion VMs from existing host to another host

2. Bakup the ESXi host configuration

Backup using this arcticle https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2013/02/how-to-backup-restore-free-esxi-host.html

The configuration file can be downloaded using a web browser or copied to a remote system using scp

scp configBundle-[hostname].tgz user@address:/tmp/

3. Shut down existing host, remove all the NIC and LUNs cables.

4. Connect NIC and LUNs cables to the new host excatly the same as old host.

5. Power on a new host

6. Install ESXi 6.5 U1, rename the host to match the old host and assign the management ip

7. Add the new host to vCenter cluster.

8.  Apply configuration changes to a new host

Follow the comments to restore esxi host configration to different esxi host https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2013/02/how-to-backup-restore-free-esxi-host.html

Basically you just have to update the UUID # under Manifest.txt file.

Part 1
(1) Backup host config of new esxi host using this article. This will create a file named configBundle.tgz.
(2) Copy the tgz file to /tmp folder using cp command. Change directory to /tmp: cd /tmp
(3) Extract configBundle.tgz file: tar zxvf configBundle.tgz
(4) Open Manifest.txt file and write down the UUID: cat Manifest.txt
(5) Remove configBundle.tgz file, Manifest.txt file and state.tgz file using rm command.

Part 2
(1) Copy host config file downloaded from step 2 (old host) to /tmp folder under new host.
(2) Change directory to /tmp.
(3) Extract configBundle.tgz file: tar zxvf configBundle.tgz
(4) Open Manifest.txt file using vi and update the UUID with the one you wrote down for Server B. Save the file.
(5) Remove or rename configBundle.tgz file under /tmp.
(6) tar manifest.txt and state.tgz files: tar zcvf configBundle.tgz Manifest.txt state.tgz
(7) run the vim-cmd restore command to restore the config.

Reboot the host.

9. Verifiy the configurations.

10. vMotion VMs to new host

11. Follow the same steps on the next new host

Wait for couple of days and upgrade to 6.7 Update 1.

I would like the experts to chime in if there is any issue with the above upgrade process or if I missed any steps.

Thanks,

2 SSDs showing same naa

Hi, I am facing this strange problem on HP-DL380 G7 server with fresh installed 6.7 U1. I have 6 SAS and 2 SSD drives connected via a LSI 9211-8i controller flashed IT mode. I am not sure why but ESXi (even the installer) only shows 1 SSD. I think the reason is because both SSDs are showing same naa that's why ESXi takes only the first one in the list.  I found this in the logs

2019-01-02T05:49:51.055Z cpu11:2097918)<6>Fusion MPT SAS Host:3:0:0:0 :: SATA: handle(0x000a), sas_addr(0x4433221103000000), phy(3), device_name(0x5002538043584d30)

and then grep on the naa a few more lines showing

2019-01-02T05:49:57.751Z cpu20:2097629)ScsiDeviceIO: 9372: Get VPD 86 Inquiry for device "naa.5002538043584d30" from Plugin "NMP" failed. Not supported

Which makes me think that there are two devices being presented by the RAID controller, sas_addr(0x4433221103000000), phy(3) and sas_addr(0x4433221102000000), phy(2) but device_name seems to be the same for both. Not to mention that this works fine with CentOS or any other Linux distro if I boot that server.

Here is the some output from dmesg showing all 8 devices from the SAS controller. The one *bold* below has the issue.

Cannot create VMFS Datastore on newly installed ESX 6.5 (Licensed)

Hi,

we have a new Dell PowerEdge R730xd server setup and preconfigured with DellEMC Customized Image ESXi 6.5 Update 1 A08 (based on ESXi VMKernel Release Build 7388607) .

I am using VSphere Essentials License.

Without any changes, I logged into the Vsphere Web Interface /ui/#/host and attempted to create a new VMFS datastore but got an error:

Failed to create VMFS datastore test - Cannot change the host configuration.

SPECS Used:

Name: Test

Devices: 1 x 10TB Virtual Disk (Raid 10 x 4 Physical Disks) setup by Dell.

Size to create VMFS datastore: 1 TB

VMFS Type:  Both VMFS 5 and 6 failed in separate tests.

No other existing datastores or VM's.

Contacted Dell but awaiting response and as it ESX they may not help.

As we need this server setup ASAP I was wondering if anyone knows of any resolutions or a point in the right direction with this.

I have used ESX different flavors for years and never seen this before.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

I also have limited command line experience.

Recomposing Issue

I seem to be having an issue recomposing and was curious where the issue might be.  Not sure if it points to the Horizon servers or the Vsphere hosts.    Lately when i try to recompose a Linked Clone pool it takes forever for the cloning process.  typically when i recompose it takes only a few minutes for the "cloning" process to show up in vcenter.  Now when i try to recompose a pool it takes well over an hour for that same process to show up.  I seem to have an issue but not sure where to look.  Horizon composer logs look OK. No errors.  Not sure where to start looking going forward.  Any assistance is appreciated.

We have been using vGPU's for a long while now ( P4's - M60's - K2's ).

However we are NOW just heading into Instant Clone Territory.

Did i hear correctly that we have to use Dedicated IC's for vGPU's ?.. or are Floaters ok ?

We will be using Win 10 rev 1803 probably ( is 1810 being forced on us yet ? )

Anyone have any Advice for getting vGPU's working w/ Instant Clones ?.

Trying to figure out how the POOLS would be designed ?

One Pool Per Card Type Per Profile ?

We try to only have One Profile per Card.. makes life easier .

However we Do use M60's and P4's.

Granted the M60's and P4's DO use the dame driver i believe atm.

So in that case would I have one Pool per Q profile ?

So a new pool for users that have either a P4 or M60 but all have a 2q profile lets say ?

Users with a 4Q would require their own pool ?

Anyone know of Docs Specifically for getting Instant Clones to work with vGPU's ?

Thank you ,

Nested ESXi 6.7 running under KVM - VM performance unusable

I have been trying to set up a lab environment running a couple of ESXi 6.7 hosts under QEMU/KVM.  I've spent many hours going through this forum and other sources of info but am stuck on getting a stable/usable environment with a couple of Windows Server VMs.

KVM Host -

- Host CPUs - 2x Xeon E5620 (Verified the CPUs support VT-x with EPT)

- Centos 7.5 - fully updated

- QEMU emulator version 2.12.0 (qemu-kvm-ev-2.12.0-18.el7_6.1.1)

- cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested - Y

- cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/ept - Y

- cat /sys/module/kvm/parameters/ignore_msrs - Y

ESXi VM created -

virt-install --name esxi67 --ram 8192 --disk path=/virtstore-raid10-hdd/esxi67.qcow2,size=80,bus=sata --cpu host-passthrough --vcpus=8 --os-type linux --os-variant=virtio26 --network bridge=br1,model=e1000 --graphics spice,listen=0.0.0.0,password=password --video qxl --cdrom /var/lib/libvirt/isos/esxi-67.iso --features kvm_hidden=on --machine q35

ESXi host boots and runs and seems stable.

ESXi Nested Host -

- Version - 6.7.0 (Build 8169922)

- Added the following to /etc/vmware/config

       - hv.assumeEnabled = "TRUE"

       - vmx.allowNested = "TRUE"

- I have two VMs created - one with Server 2012R2 and one with Server 2008R2 - generic settings - 4 CPUs / 4GB RAM

- Added "vmx.allowNested = "TRUE" to both through WebUI

- Both machines will boot - sort of - the Server 2012 install hangs at the boot splash for hours at times - once they boot, they are sort of functional but freeze up constantly

- If I try to enable "

I have spent hours reading forums and trying different combinations of settings but cannot get a stable/usable environment.

Does anyone have any ideas or insights of what I am missing?  I think the main issue is that I cannot enable Hardware Virtualization on the nested VMs, but everything should be set up correctly for the Nested VMs to see VT-x/EPT as available on their CPUs.

Sincerely,

Dave Redmore

AppVolumes with Visual Studio 2017 Workspaces

I'm new to App Volumes, but not new to Horizon View, trying to get it to work so we can provide non persistent desktops to developers. The thinking being our Devs need to be able to install their own software, and they also download a large (3.5GBish) workspace from Visual Studio to work on during a project, then only check in changes when the project is completed.

Tried directing the workspace to a network home share, this worked, but was too slow to be workable in my opinion, so AppVolumes sounded like it would work (effectively a local disk attached at logon to a non persistent desktop). However i can't get Visual Studio to download the workspace to the personal drive, seems non addressable as a disk (although visible in diskmgmt.msc), and downloading to the c:\users\<username>\ path seems to put it on the OS disk, rather than cleverly redirecting it to the AppVolume.

Does this make sense in terms of what we're trying to achieve?, is it possible/supported to do this sort of thing or should i just be sticking to persistent desktops for this use case?
