Windows Server 2016 VM only

Running into a strange issue, and I don't know if this is a vSphereESXi Bug or Windows Server Bug.

In ESXi 6.5 I created a Windows Server 2016 (64-bit) VM w/ BIOS). From the disk management in Windows I was able to see, mount and format RDM a 6TB Drives

After updating to ESXI6.7 (With compatibility VM 14) still using the BIOS, the 6TB RDM is very hit and miss.

If I already had a 6TB mount, the system says it is there and it looks like I can read all the data. However, if I try to copy to the RDM, it tells me the disk is out of space regardless of however much space is open. If I format the drive, then the format fails.

If I RDM a fresh drive (same drive all partitioning was removed) then windows only see the last <2TB of the drive.

I installed using EFI and the same issue shows.

Was there a feature added to 6.7U1

Business Week Workload Tab Memory Demand 100%

Hello

We recently have upgraded to vRealize Operations Manager version 7.

There is a "new widget" what is called Business Week Workload (used to be called stress) where you can see the hotspots on a particular object, host, vm, resource pool.

We noticed that on 90% of our virtual machines (+- 500), the memory demand is constantly at 100%. This causes that the business week workload view is completely red as you can see in attached print screens.

We compared the memory demand with the stats from vCenter and we see also the consumed host memory is constantly at 100%.

As a test we created a vm with 80GB of memory and we run a memory stress test tool in the vm -> the host consumed goes to 100% and also the memory demand & usage in vRops.

When we stop the test, memory usage in the vm drops to +- 2GB. but the vm consumed in vcenter and memory demand in vRops remains at 100%.

Anyone else having this phenonoma, or can explain me why this is happening like this?
it makes the workload view rather useless in this way

VmWare - Host cannot ping VM and vice verse

I am currently experiencing issue with setting up VmWare vSphere 6 lab as described in CBT nugget by Keith Barker.

I am using management network at 192.168.1.0/24 (same network that my router is).

In VmWare workstation 14 there are following network adapters:

VmWare workstation adapters

so VMnet0 is bridged to wireless USB that is used to access the Internet (Tenda U1).

ESXi-1 host is given static IP at 192.168.1.101/24.

ESXi-2 host is given static IP at 192.168.1.102/24.

AD (Windows server 2012 with AD installed) is given static IP at 192.168.1.111/24.

When Test mgmt network on esxi-1 is run, result is:

enter image description here

Also, when I try pinging esxi-1 from windows server, it succeeds: https://i.stack.imgur.com/oS07R.png

enter image description here

My host PC is running at 192.168.1.22/24.

Problem starts when I try to ping esxi guest from my Host PC (or any other VM), I get following: https://i.stack.imgur.com/Nyzub.png

Host PC ping error

Also, pinging Host PC from Windows server guest:

I have tried to disable firewall but no luck.

Anyone have any idea about solving this annoying issue

Hi everybody,

I have NSX 6.4 with several vxlans and software router between them (not an ESX Edge) without a rout to external network.

Since I've migrated everything from NSX 6.3 to NSX 6.4 I've got  Warnings with the following text

"Possible DHCP DOS attack seen on the host. Please refer to NSX Manager and VM Kernel logs for details."

In NSX Manager's System Events I see messages like

Event DHCP_STARV occurred 2400 times on host <hostname>

vmkernel log referes to MAC address of software router

I couldn't find anything related to this new feature of NSX.

Is this somethig I should worry? Or this are false alarms?

Change Blueprint of Managed Machine

Hello,

Is there any way to change the blueprint associated with a managed machine? We have some old blueprints we want to get rid of as we are reorganizing vRA, but there are still active machines tied to them. I have tried using the bulk import method and changed the blueprint and component values, but after importing those values did not change. I suppose we could unregister them from vRA first and then try Bulk import, but I was hoping there was an easier solution.

Darren

Hello,

I'm on Debian Sid 64-bits and i installed a Windows 10 1809 in a VM with VMWare Player 15.

I use this VM only to stream my PS4 with PS4 Remote Play application.

The issue is that i have big network problems like big lags or connection lost. i did a modification in the .vmx file, i replace "ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000e"" by "ethernet0.virtualDev = "vmxnet3"" without success. I installed VM Tools 10.3.5 too.

If i use the PS4 Remote Play on my real Windows 10 partition on the same laptop, i have not these network problem.

I need your help to understand where come from the issue and maybe fix it.

Thanks for advance,

Odelpasso

Workstation 15: Guest screen flickering occasionally - can someone reproduce this issue?

$

After having upgraded to VMware Workstation 15 on my Windows 10x64 machine, each of my VMs shows a black flicker from time to time (once every 10 minutes or so).

This disturbance can be reproduced easily:

Simply start a VM with a Windows 10x64 OS installed and wait for about 10 seconds after having signed in to the guest OS. Then the first black flicker will occur:

Guest screen flickering.gif

After having opened a support ticket I'm having long discussions with VMware Support. They don't seem to be able to reproduce this issue.

So I'm asking here: Can anyone reproduce this issue?

Hello,

a few days ago i changed the __MACHINE_CERT of my vCenter Server to one trusted by my client. (Issued by my own CA). I also added my own CA-Certificate to the vCenter.
Everything works fine, no certificate error in browser.

But now i tried to upload an .iso File to a newly created Content-Library. This failes with the following error shown in the vCenter Log)

Im using vCenter 6.7.

The import of library item e058b94e-29bd-4808-8add-c2547dc3e0f5 has failed.

Before i changed the certificate to my own, the content-library was working fine. Is there any other Certificate i have to replace?

I also tried to reboot everything. (Its just a lab server, so no worries.)

Can someone maybe help me?a

Thanks and best regards!

ssh accessibility to VM not working after static IP address was configured to IP address of removed VM

$

I have an ESXi host (version 6.0) with a VM running Debian that I use as a test server for web development. I was previously able to ssh into this machine with no issues. I decided to clean up a little and remove some VMs from disk that I wasn't going to be using anymore. One of which was a VM running Windows 2012. I wanted to use the statically assigned IP address the Windows 2012 VM was using to the Debian server.

First I deleted the VM from disk. Then I went into my router and configured the static IP address. Then i went into my Debian VM and rebooted so DHCP would pull the new address (while writing this post I went in and statically configured the IP address in the debian machine's /etc/networking/interfaces file for good measure).  While I can't remember if my first attempted worked or not, at some point I wound up having to reboot the ESXi host and was able to ssh into the Debian VM.

While working for a while though, the connection got lost and every subsequent attempt resulted in "Connection refused". I installed nmap on my Mac (the machine I work from) and the results didn't match the ufw (firewall) configs on my debian machine:

wrongandrightt.png

After rebooting the ESXi host again, I ran nmap and got these results:

nmap_good.png

When nmap returns these results I find that I'm able to SSH into my debian machine for a little while before it craps out again.

The point of failure seems to be with my ESXi host, but I'm open to suggestions.
