Numeric keypad stopped working in Fusion
My numeric keypad has stopped working in Fusion. It still works in OS X. The keypad used to work in Fusion, but has mysteriously stopped. How can I get it back?

ESXi 6.5 - Video Card Questions
Hey all,
I'm running into an issue with a particular application installed on a VM. The application is somewhat data intensive when its loading particular site maps for a particular region for the client. I thought maybe adding additional video card memory to the particular VM would help increase the performance but had some questions as we typically don't modify this value when building VM's. Our typical setup leaves total video card memory at 8 MB, with 3D graphics disabled, 3D Renderer set to Auto, and 3D memory set to 256 mb. (Host is a Dell R620/R630) Here are my questions:
1. If we allocate more video memory, let say 64 MB or more, how exactly does this work?There isn't a dedicated graphics card installed on this host, so where is this pulling from?
2. While adding these additional resources, does this pull from already allocated resources to the VM (like RAM) or does this pull overhead from somewhere else?
3. Anything I should be mindful of before increasing? Would this have any adverse affects?

Host Hardware system board status

I keep getting a message Host Hardware system board status. I have acknowledge and even reset to green but the error keeps coming back.
Dell is reporting no errors on the server and if we log into the esxi server directly there are no errors
Any ideas?

VMware Power CLI: how to get custom attributes for a datastore?

I am trying to get a custom attribute value for my datastore, but bumping into an issue with type incompatibility. Is there anything I am doing wrong below, and how to fix it?

Note 1: I am able to get a custom attribute for a virtual machine, cluster and host. The problem is with the Datastore only.
Note 2: I guess the problem is that Get-Datastore returns Datastore object, while Get-Annotation expects InventoryItem object for -Entity. It is not clear if it is possible to do a cast/transformation or anything like that.
VMware vCenter version: 6.5
Any thoughts?

Horizon 7 Desktop Pool
We are in the process of setting up a new Horizon 7 environment from "scratch" and have gotten to the point of creating a new Desktop Pool. The Pool is created however with a red x in the View Administrator console. When I click on it to View the Summary, configuration, etc., the error below pops up (see image below as well):
com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.exception.ConnectionException: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out.
Part of the error contains "java". Does Java need to be installed on our connection servers?

Best Practice for Printers?
Hello,
I have a Windows 10 image and I'm wondering how to go about connecting printers. If I deploy a base image with no drivers and have the end users locate and map printers as needed; will those settings remain with the users?
I read elsewhere that all drivers should be installed on the gold image. I was under the assumption that users would be able to map whichever devices they need, log off, reconnect to completely different desktop and see previously mapped devices.

Can MOVE-VM validate resources on destination prior to move?
Want to migrate a bunch of VMs to specific hosts in cluster. All VMs in cluster use full memory reservations. Consequently if I migrate VMs using MOVE-VM I end up with some vMotions failing due to lack of resources on destination (the destination will eventually have enough room for VMs, but due to order of migrations may not have enough at time move attempted).
Just ordering VMs by desitnation host with least memory wont work as the host with the least memory could have VMs that are in to be migration list as well, causing a temporary lack of resources.
Is there any way to have MOVE-VM prevalidate the move? I was hoping the -whatif argument could do this, it doesnt appear it can?

Usage Meter - Automatic Reports - Ignoring reports filter
Good afternoon.
We have a few usage meters setup and operational, however for all instances (version 3.6.1) under automatic reporting, when setting this up you can select the reports to include in the email such as:
Cluster History
Customer Monthly Usage
Horizon DaaS Tenants
Monthly Usage
Virtual Machine History
I only have monthly usage selected as this is the only one we are interested in - however the email comes through to the team with all of the reports.
This is affecting all instances. Is this a known issue?

Function keys
I can see that the keyboard setting "Use all F1, F2, etc.keysas standardfunction keys" isn't avaliable in the guest machines' System Preferences. Is it not possible to make the "special keys" work in a VMware Fusion Mac guest VM?

Workstation Pro and vCenter Server Templates
Greetings all,
Although I suspect this question has been asked before, I can't seem to find anything conclusive.
Our vCenter Server takes advantage of both templates and Content Libraries. Some of the templates are distributed through the CL, while others are simply resident on a host's inventory/datastore. We have several users that use Workstation Pro 15 (recently upgraded from 12.5). The templates and CL are great for admins such as myself that play in vCenter Server most of the day, but our users have demands that could be satisfied by using the templates as well; part of these demands are currently satisfied by running VMs locally with Workstation Pro.
I'm wondering if there's a way for Workstation Pro to use templates from the vCenter Server? Say to get a copy of the template from the server and run it locally?

windows 10 1809 slow
I downloaded the Windows 10 1809 and Server 2019 ISOs the day they became available so I can start working on my templates.
I built the templates with EFI, paravirtual for the C drive and vmxnet3 adapter. I've been using this combo for other versions of windows 10/8/7and windows server 2008r2/2012r2/1016 without issue.
So far Windows 2019 (with desktop experience) seems to be ok at least for a basic vm and guest customization. Haven't tried anything else yet.
Windows 10 1809 on the other hand is very, very slow to reboot after the initial install or even just rebooting after making some changes post install. After installing the OS it took 10-15 minutes for the initial windows setup stuff (user, security settings, etc) to appear . I tried a VM set to BIOS and it seemed faster but was still quite slow. Server 2019 and other versions of windows 10 have no issue.
The hosts are esxi 6.5 and 6.7.
I haven't had a chance to try every combo of BIOS/EFI/vmxnet3/e1000e/paravirtual/lsi sas to see if one is the cause of the issue but was wondering if anyone else had noticed any issues or if it was just me?

NSX performance issues
Hi all, I have an NSX home lab running. Here a basic overview of the setup:
My PC is on the 192.168.1.x/24 network. UniFi USG as the gateway
ESXi Hosts, vCSA, NSX Manager, NSX Control cluster are on the 10.0.0.0/24 network, tagged VLAN 2, on a 10Gbit switch. Also on this network (and switch) is a QNAP NAS. Again, using the UniFi USG as the gateway.
I don't think it matters but I am running vSAN and they are using a directly connected network for vSAN and vMotion. Witness traffic is tagged on the 10.0.0.0/24 VMk where the witness appliance resides.
I have two logical networks, 5001 and 5002, 172.16.0.0/24 and 172.16.10.0/24 respectively.
I have one Edge gateway. This has an interface for 5001 and 5002. It also has an interface on the VLAN 2 port group for external traffic.
The VMs on the 5001 and 5002 networks use the edge as their gateway. The edge uses the UniFi USG as it's gateway.
I then have a static route on the UniFi USG which directs 5001 and 5002 traffic to the interface on the VLAN 2 port group of the Edge.
Not the most complex of setups I don't think. I wasn't sure if I needed an Edge for each logical network but it's working fine with just the single one.
Running iPerf tests from host to host I get the expected 10Gbps speed.
Running iPerf tests from the host to the QNAP NAS I get 10Gbps.
Running it from my PC to a VM on a logical network I get 1Gbps (PC is only 1Gbit, as is the UniFi USG).
The issue that I am having is RDP performance from my PC to a VM is poor, it's like it's on 10 frames a second. It does this if the VM is in the VLAN 2 port group of if it's connected to either logical switch.
I'm guessing here that it's the UniFi USG causing the issues? I do have a pfSense appliance I could try I guess.
The second issue I am having is if I do an iPerf test between VMs, either on the same logical network or seperate networks, traffic appears limited, peaking around 5Gbps but around 2-3 average.
This leads me to believe that the issue is in the edge configuration somehow, or is this normal behaviour? I'd have thought I would see the full 10Gbps.

Adding Datastore from old environment
Hello,
I am migrating all of my VMs from our old 4.5 and 5.0 hosts to our new 6.5 hosts.
For the most part I have been able to use VMWare Converter and migrate them to the new environment. I have a few VMs that the VMConverter will not work on.
If I add the old storage SAN to the new 6.5 host can I then add a datastore that points to the volume where the old VMs resided and then power down the VM and then add to library on the new host or will this delete the information on that datastore?

vSphere HA
Hi my friends.
I get an home lab with with 2 esxi hosts.
One of them with vcenter and the other is clean.
Now, I want to make a replication between of them, and to make a "failover cluster". If one down, all the VM's keep working.. I read about vsphere HA. Do I need to install vcenter on both machines?
How I"ll do the replication?

Needing to upgrade multiple versions of ESXi
We’re a small shop but growing. Over the years software solution would be delivered by vendors who only used VM for software deployment. You can imagine that with different vendors an just time there would come to pass different versions of VM being used.
I notice we now have ESXi 5.1, 5.5, 6.5 and 6.7 running.
We never had a VCenter server but have recently installed the 6.7 VCenter Appliance Server.
The question is how do I upgrade my VMHost that have different ESXi versions, to work on the 6.7 VCenter?

port mirror to which port IDS VM is connected to?
in a home lab running ESXi 6.7 i have a SecurityOnion VM running. i want to port mirror my pfsense FW from its connection to a managed netgear switch (jgs524 v2) to the SecurityOnion VM.
i have 6 LAN ports on the ESXi host...one 2-port card and one 4-port card. one port on ESXi motherboard is the management port. all 7 ports connect to same netgear switch.
when i mirror the pfsense port i'm trying to figure out what destination port on netgear switch to use so that gets to the SecurityOnion VM.

centos 5 physical conversion to virtual which converter?
Converting a centos physical to virtual on vcenter 6, I see convert 6 doesn not support centos 5. I don't see any other version on the download page.
What version of vcenter converter should I use and where to download from?
