Building a Security HomeLab with ESXi6.7 - HELP

Hello Everyone,

I am not sure If this question should be asked on this platform, so please do let me know if it doesn't belong here.

I am a newbie and I am trying to build a Security focused home lab using ESXi 6.7. The attached picture displays what I currently have in my network. The GOALs below are what I am trying to achieve and failing miserably. I need some advice/ideas from people who are more experienced with this product or who has traveled down this path before.

GOALS:

- Separate the LAN traffic and HomeLab LAN traffic.

- Make a machine from the LAN network to be able to access ESXi Web Client and manage VMs in it.

- I have a pfsense firewall running as a VM. Make this as a primary firewall for both the LAN and HomeLab. <-- Preferred.

- Install the pfsense FW in the HomeLab if the above is not feasible.

Reproducible FireFox 60.0.2 Crash after working 1-3 times per session

Hi,

we discovered an error in a customer environment which is reproducable in our LAB which is completely fresh installed.

We use a clean Windows7 x64 VM, fully patched with Horizon View 7.4 Agent and AppVolumes 2.14.

Single Appstack, only Firefox 60.0.2 64bit German Version.

Clean User Profile, no Profile Management solution for testing

Starting Firefox works fine - open, browse, close.

Open again/browse/close works fine for several times. But if you open some tabs, stop using firefox for some minutes and close it, it won't open again.

Firefox is on the newest Version, so no update in the background.

-Safe-mode :not working

-deleting FireFox Profile :not working

-same behavior with View Agent 7.3.2, AppVolumes Agent 2.13.3, old AppVolumes Template.

-Copying the FireFox program directory to c:\temp and start FireFox from there works fine

Any Idea how to find out whats going on here ?

Is there a possibility to debug the AppVolumes driver ?

Jens

find Virtual Machine most upgradable vm version (vm hardware)

hi,

i am trying to create a workflow that automatically upgrade vmtools + vm hardwrae version for a specific virtual machine.

the vmtools upgrade process is working perfectly without any issues, i can list a predefined array of virtual machines with status "tools required updates" and then update them.

unfortunately,  i cannot find anything related to predefined condition of virtual machine hardware version (vmx-11,vmx-10 etc..) ,

my goal is to make a query which check the virtual machine current vm version and compare that to the host (esxi) most compatible vm version available.

how can i create this workflow?

Can't run vmkfstools remotly, vSphere 6.0.0

Hi,

I had downloaded VMware-vSphere-CLI-6.0.0-2503617.x86_64.tar.gz on a Debian9, modified the install script to run on Debian 9 (removed rpm specific commands).

If I run the tool on the esx server, it works well :

vmkfstools -X 15G -d eagerzeroedthick  /vmfs/volumes/LUN_100/VMNAME/VMNAME.vmdk

But when I run from my desktop, I have :

vmkfstools --vihost esx42.example.com --server vc1.example.com --username me -X 20G -d eagerzeroedthick  /vmfs/volumes/LUN_100/VMNAME/VMNAME.vmdk

Attempting to extend disk [LUN_100] VMNAME/VMNAME.vmdk

Unable to extend virtual disk :

Any clue ?

I would like to be able to run this command remotly and not via ssh.

10 Key Pad Not Working in Windows 10

I have Fusion 11 installed on my Mac running Windows 10.  The 10 key pad on my apple keyboard works when I sign into Windows using my PIN number but does not work while in Windows.  When I press the keys they act like the page up/page down/home/end keys.  However, I do not have a Num Lock key on the apple keyboard like on my Windows laptop keyboard with a 10 key pad.  Is there a way to make the 10 key pad functional in Windows 10 or just not supported in Fusion?

Hi,

the customer has three old Lenovo x3650 M4 and would like three current M5. In addition, the customer has vsphere 5.5 U3 and would like to migrate to 6.5 U2. the customer has licensed Vsphere Essentials Plus Kits

What would be the Basic steps to switch the hardware and have three new 6.5 ESXi hosts and exactly same VMs?

Thank you so much

Can't download esxi 6.5

I had a vmware account for years. I know the login and password. I wanted to download esxi 6.5 but couldn't because it "activate" my account. It sends an email to me with a link to activate, where it then rejects my password. There is no password reset offered. I can't contact tech support about this without an account. So...what do I do?

Fairly new to vCenter and just investigating it's usability in our environment.

Running VCSA 6.7.0 - 10244857

Only have one user currently, the administrator setup during installation.

Then go to Administration > Access Control > Roles results in the following screen with the 2 XHR errors.

The response of these is:

There's a repeated error inside vpxd.log which I haven't been able to resolve yet either and I'm not sure it's related?
