CP 3.0 only scanning a partial list of objects

Looking for any insight into fixing this issue. I have had this running for several weeks and for the most part it will run a scheduled performance scan against all my objects. However at times it reverts to scanning only a small amount of objects. I can run a DB check and compact then run a manual scan and it will begin scanning my entire list again. The next scheduled scan will normally scan against all my objects again. It's currently reverting back to only scanning 19 objects instead of all 176.

 

Any thoughts?

Can't building the C# SSO DLL with Error: pvk2pfx command not found.

Visual Studio 2015 Community, Windows Driver Kit 10, Windows 10. I follow this doc http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/index.jsp#com.vmware.wssdk.dsg.doc/sdk_c_sharp_development.5.4.html?path=7_1_0_0_2_2_0#1002265

I navigate to the .NET subdirectory for SSO client samples.

cd %WS_SDK_HOME%\ssoclient\dotnet\cs\samples

and then generate a test certificate and STSService stubs using the build.bat script.

.\build.bat

I get this error:

'Files' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

Error: pvk2pfx command not found.

       Please ensure that you have added path to pvk2pfx.exe to the PATH variable

I do file search, and pvk2pfx.exe doesn't not exist on a computer. MSDN says pvk2pfx.exe is included in WDK, but it's probably outdated info and after WDK installation, I still can't find pvk2pfx.exe

How to build the dll with VS2015?

PowerCLI 6.3 changes with VimClient.Connect() for C# - SSL/TLS Error

I have been developing a c# app and was using the VMWare.Vim DLL from PowerCLI 6.0. I updated my PowerCLI and now i am unable to connect to the vCenter. The connection now throws an error of "The underlying connection was closed: could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel". I never had this problem before i upgraded PowerCLI. Is there a way to disable checking the certificate?

VMWare Workstation 12.1.1 build 3770994 pro - guests freezing regularly

I am running workstation pro as above, under Windows 10 Enterprise. The host machine has 32 Gb RAM and is a high performance i7 workstation. The VMs are hosted on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD with firmware at the latest revision, and plenty of spare space on both the system and data drives.

The guest machines are Windows 7, mostly running 2Gb RAM. 

I am getting regular freezes of the running VMs where the screen activity stops but there is no problem switching between the frozen VMs using the tabs in the VM Workstation app.  This affects all currently running VMs.  After a minute or two, the machines revert to responding normally.

Other apps on the host are unaffected and there is no unusual activity in task manager to suggest that either CPU or memory resources are maxing out.

 

Does anyone have any words of wisdom regarding this problem?

vRA7 and OpenLDAP

Trying to configure vRA7 lab instance with our OpenLDAP directory.  Although the test button succeeds, I can't seem to get a sync to work.  Is OpenLDAP even supported in vRA7 and is there documentation that explains how to set it up?  My Google powers have turned up nothing yet unfortunately.

Workbench 3.5 not creating storage60info.txt

I am running the configuration and collect storage information portion.

MDT fails because it cannot find storage60info.txt.

How is this file created? 

What do I have to do to create this file?

VDP Replication Job stuck at 92%

This is a new setup I'm testing before rolling it out to all my sites.

 

I have a replication job configured that only has one small VM of about 20GB but it never gets past 92%. It spawns a destination task that also never gets past 98%. I originally had multiple VMs in the replication job but removed them because I thought maybe it was just taking a really long time to replicate, however with just the one small VM it still never seems to finish and will run for days until the job is suppose to start again at the scheduled weekly time.

Both appliances are using Data Domains for storage and VDP is 6.1

 

 

Where should I start to troubleshoot?

The FAQ says Photon is "optimized for VMware".  Is Photon supported under other hyper-visors such as KVM and Hyper-V and/or bare metal?

TCP Port 80 in use

I installed PhotonOS in a VM on VMware Fusion. The only things I changed where: allow root login trough SSH and I installed docker-compose

To play around I pulled a Nextcloud image and started the container. It couldn't start successfully because port 80 is in use from httpd on PhotonOS itself.

After I stopped httpd on PhotonOS the container could be started.

 

Is there any reason why httpd on PhotonOS should be started...?

HELP: Running ESXi 4.1 host just lost it's boot disk

One of our ESXi 4.1 servers lost a drive in it's Raid-1 boot array about a week ago.  No biggie, bought new drive, inserted new drive today, array began rebuild.  Other drive fails during rebuild.  "F&%K!" I screamed.

 

Good news is the VMs are still running as is ESXi' as far as I can tell.  I know though as soon ESXi needs to read/write to a log file or something it's all going to come crashing down.

 

So the question is, since I don't have vmotion and I don't have another suitable host anyway, how long do I have before ESXi dies?  Do I have enough time to get a new server (10 days)?  Should I put a really powerful working up quick (overnight)?  Or is best to shut the VMs down now and deal with outage?

 

A few bits of information.  The VMs are stored completely on a shared NFS array, not on the hosts' physical storage.  The host has dual power supplies each tied to separate battery backups each on their own circuit.  I don't think power will bring them down.  The host is starved for RAM (thanks Exchange) and was planned to be replaced before year's end.  Only thing running on the host is ESXi itself.  It was loaded to the boot array.  Everything else is stored on the NFS systems.

Swap file difference between NFS and VMFS

We are migrating from an NFS SAN to an iSCSI SAN and i'm noticing that when migrating VMs the swap file is reporting full RAM size provisioned on the VMFS datastore but on the NFS datastore is reporting 0 bytes and i'm getting low space alerts as a result. We are not even close to being over committed on RAM and the hosts are in the same cluster, VMs remaining in the same resource pool. If I browse both datastores I can see that the underlying file is getting created (or reporting file size anyway) as full RAM size on both.

 

For example, a VM with 2GB RAM on a host with the swap datastore set to the NFS share creates a "2GB" file but reports 0 bytes provisioned, but when the VM is migrated to a host with the VMFS datastore, the swap file is getting created as 2GB but reporting 2GB provisioned. Is this just an artifact of how the different types of datastore are handled and should I just ignore the alerts or is there somehow a different problem at play? I know if the memory reservation is getting met (and it is), the swap file "should" be 0 bytes, which is why i'm confused. I'm running 5.5U1 with VMFS5 datastores FWIW

I am testing a fail over but gets an error :

Error - Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. Failed to create snapshot of replica device 300. SRA command 'testFailoverStart' failed for device '300'. Device is already in test failover [Device: 300] Run Stop Failover Test on key


Can any one help me with this error.

GPU is Greyed Out for Passthrough

I'm trying to enable my GPU to be passed through to a Windows VM. Originally I was told that it wasn't able. After enabling VT-d in my bios, it now says "Disabled" instead of "Not Available". As the GTX 750 Ti is the only graphics device installed (no onboard graphics), it's defaulting as the display device and ESXi uses it to display it's screen. Is that the reason that it's greyed out? If I were to buy another graphics card and insert it as the default graphics unit, would the option to toggle it as a passthrough device then work?

Hi All,

 

Iam new to this docker and not good in unix working as Windows & VMware ( EXSi + VCenter )

 

Iam deep interested in learning new technology, in my office we are running a docker on linux for a commercial project here I need to prove that VMWare can do much better than others for the same iam doing POC ( prof of concept )

 

I started exploring Photon & stuck in pulling  images have attached the screen shot

 

Help me to resolve this for further proceeding

 

Can any one share me the good document to learn A to Z on VMWare Docker

create a task vsphere sdk

We are working on the vSphere plugin and currently got stuck with creating a tasks in the vSphere webclients recent tasks.

we need to add a task to the recent tasks tab for any operation we do on the plugin we are developing .

My code looks like this :

vSphere 6.0 Task and events notification

Hi ,

Is there a way where we can subscribe to the events and task status and vSphere can notify us when the event/task happens/completes.

 

My goal is to get the notifications from vSphere tasks and events , without having to poll for task/events from vSphere.  I am thinking of exposing an endpoint by extending the interface from vSphere management SDK (6.0)  and configure that endpoint in vSphere  , and get notified on tasks and events as it happens on vSphere instead of me polling the vSphere.

 

I am not sure if it is possible , any help/sample/documentation is appreciated.

How to Get Running Task ID Through Vsphere Webservice

I want to get the running task ID in vcenter server. Because sometimes we need to cancel this task due to some reasons. I know I can use PowerCLI get-task to get this.

Can I get the Running task ID use Webservice? Or other Method, we need to integrate with other system.

Help Setting up Development Environment for C#

Greetings, 

 

I am very new to using C# so maybe this is more of a simple matter of me missing something simple but I am trying to use the VMWare VSphere SDK for 5.5.  I am following the following article to set up my environment:

 

vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center

 

I am having a hard time with step 3 "generate the VimService.cs file"

 

The error that I am getting from wsewsdl3 is as follows:

 

Error:  Invalid URL, or File 'and' not found.

 

At first, I thought this was maybe an issue with the environment variables that I set but I did a cd to each variable and they are valid.  I also ensure that both the vim.wsdl and the VimService.wsdl are both located at the paths specified.  I am not sure where the command is getting the "'and'" from.  I did a direct copy and paste out of the documentation for the command to ensure that I did not have any typos when I manually typed in the command.

Add shared or mirrored Documents folder to Library > Documents

How can I add either a shared or mirrored (still not clear on which I should be using or the difference for that matter) Documents folder from my Mac OSX (10.9.5) to the Win 7 Library\Documents folder. I'm using VMware Fusion 6.0.5.

 

I spent an hour and 13 minutes on the phone with VMware tech support and unfortunately they had no idea. Win 7 does not seem to like that the shared Documents folder from OSX is a "network" drive even though it is really on the same hard drive. Because it is seen as a network location Win 7 is unable to index the files and therefore seems to have issues with accessing the files. Namely, Quickbooks Pro will not open a company file because it thinks the files are on a server. Which means you then need to install and run some Quickbooks server software which of course does not run on OSX.

 

I also seem to have issues with other software saving files when they are opened from the "shared" location versus navigating to the network location.

 

If anyone can direct me on the best way to share the Documents folder from OSX to a Win 7 VM to allow the Windows programs to operate correctly I would greatly appreciate it. I've been searching for an answer to this for quite some time now and I can't imaging I am the only one having this issue.
