I know this is an odd question, but is there anybody out there who purchased and used ESX 1.0? If so, do you still have a copy?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi,
I was trying to increase the hard disk space of a 10GB linux vm to a 20GB. I shut down the vm then ssh'd into the ESXi server. From there I ran the command:
vmkfstools -X 20G Apatite.vmdk
The command ran successfully. Then, when I powered up the vm I got and still am getting:
I have tried numerous things such as cloning the Apatite.vmdk to Apatite-repaired.vmdk. That works, however, I am getting an older version of the VM. i am not getting my changes from either Apatite-000001.vmdk or Apatite-000001-delta.vmdk.
I have some really important work on my VM that I am trying to restore. I should have backed it up before doing anything but I did. Now it seems like I am paying the price.
Can anyone help me recover my VM? Is there a way to increase the size of the snapshot (Apatite-000001.vmdk) or reduce the size of the parent so they match and the vm starts up?
Please help.
Thank you
Is that necessary to define a DNS record before vcsa installation or if i just run DNS server and insert DNS ip adress due vcsa installation is ok ?

We recently rebooted our VCenter server and following reboot, we cannot get the web interface to load. I am fairly new to administering VCenter and am at a bit of a loss as to what we should try. When trying to load the web interface, we get the following error in the web browser:
Where do I start?
I currently have a skyline collector that was setup by another user who has now left
It was setup using the same enterprise account
but is in a different organization
I now have a different organisation and I would like to transfer the collector into that organization
does anyone have a step by step approach as how this can be done
Hello,
I am preparing for hardware refresh and upgrade to 6.7 update 1 from 6.5 U1. I plan to to replace the hosts first and do the vCSA and esxi host upgrade later.
I just have one cluster with three hosts. I am replacing all the esxi hosts with new hosts. I plan to keep all the configuration exactly the same - host name, management ips, luns etc.
Here is the plan:
1 . Change DRS setting to manual
2. vMotion VMs from existing host to another host
2. Bakup the ESXi host configuration
Backup using this arcticle https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2013/02/how-to-backup-restore-free-esxi-host.html
The configuration file can be downloaded using a web browser or copied to a remote system using scp
scp configBundle-[hostname].tgz user@address:/tmp/
3. Shut down existing host, remove all the NIC and LUNs cables.
4. Connect NIC and LUNs cables to the new host excatly the same as old host.
5. Power on a new host
6. Install ESXi 6.5 U1, rename the host to match the old host and assign the management ip
7. Add the new host to vCenter cluster.
8. Apply configuration changes to a new host
Follow the comments to restore esxi host configration to different esxi host https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2013/02/how-to-backup-restore-free-esxi-host.html
Basically you just have to update the UUID # under Manifest.txt file.
Part 1
(1) Backup host config of new esxi host using this article. This will create a file named configBundle.tgz.
(2) Copy the tgz file to /tmp folder using cp command. Change directory to /tmp: cd /tmp
(3) Extract configBundle.tgz file: tar zxvf configBundle.tgz
(4) Open Manifest.txt file and write down the UUID: cat Manifest.txt
(5) Remove configBundle.tgz file, Manifest.txt file and state.tgz file using rm command.
Part 2
(1) Copy host config file downloaded from step 2 (old host) to /tmp folder under new host.
(2) Change directory to /tmp.
(3) Extract configBundle.tgz file: tar zxvf configBundle.tgz
(4) Open Manifest.txt file using vi and update the UUID with the one you wrote down for Server B. Save the file.
(5) Remove or rename configBundle.tgz file under /tmp.
(6) tar manifest.txt and state.tgz files: tar zcvf configBundle.tgz Manifest.txt state.tgz
(7) run the vim-cmd restore command to restore the config.
Reboot the host.
9. Verifiy the configurations.
10. vMotion VMs to new host
11. Follow the same steps on the next new host
Wait for couple of days and upgrade to 6.7 Update 1.
I would like the experts to chime in if there is any issue with the above upgrade process or if I missed any steps.
Thanks,
Hi community,
It’s been a while since I’ve looked at this scenario but I’m about to P2V some web services and host them on the same vSphere infrastructure as my internal production VMs.
I have a physical NIC put aside for these VMs on each host and will create a new standard vswitch and VLAN for web traffic and keep promiscuous mode rejected to segregate traffic.
I’d like to have separate storage and physical switch but that’s not an option just yet but Is there anything obvious that I’m missing to segregate web traffic from internal production and tighten security?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I'm using UAG 3.2.1 for radius authenticated external connections into our Horizon 7.5.0 environment.
Does anyone know if its possible to be prompted for AD credentials first, followed by RADIUS passcode, rather than RADIUS username and passcode then AD creds?
Long story, but our users are used to being prompted this way for other systems access, so it's a big issue.
It looks like I have to setup a whole Identity Manager environment to facilitate this where you simply specify the order, ie password, Radius.
Thanks,
Matt
Hi Everyone
I have a Dell Poweredge T320 with two hdd sas 300gb in raid 1, i want to remove both of disk and put new 600GB SAS 15k rpm and create new array RAID1.
I want to say witch procedure is faster and easy to do that.
So the goal is reinstall ESXI on the new array with the new HDD and reimport the VM.
Attend your reply thanks
We are running vROPs 7.0.0.10098133
I have two nodes in a 8 node vROPs cluster (master/replica/4x data) that failed become a member of the vROPs cluster while adding one as a data node (7) and the other as a remote collector (8).
I tried KB VMware Knowledge Base because that helped me previously but now the curl command returns only that the node already has been remove but both failed nodes are still visible in the cluster management page.
I already did shutdown all nodes in the correct order and powered them on in the right order but without result.
I looked at the casa.db.script and the nodes are still in that file. (VMware Knowledge Base )
The current cluster status is FAILURE "Finish adding new node(s) and Waiting to finish cluster expansion
The status is greyed out
Any idea how to remove the two failed nodes if he curl command from VMware Knowledge Base does not work for the ip address, hostname or fqdn?
- Recently upgraded hosts to 6.7 and vCenter to 6.7a
- Hosts are 'not responding' in vCenter Server
- Can ping
- Cannot acess web interface or login via SSH
- Can access it via console, but after you enter login information and press enter it freezes (cursor is still blinking)
- If you remove the host from the inventory and shut down a virtual machine on the host it brings everything back online and the host can be re-added to vCenter
- Four identical hosts, has happened on three of the four (twice on one)
- The host that had this issue twice now will not come back after trying the above method and is completely unresponsive at the console
Hello
I have a very simple setup of NSX-T (2.4 Beta) with a single transport node with a devstack AIO using the vmware_nsx_v3 neutron plugin. I can spawn instances with no connectivity problems among them. I am trying to get external access working for an instance. When I ping the floating ip of the instance from the outside, the ARP request reaches the tier0 service router and is dropped there. If I ping the external router IP from the instance, the ICMP echo reply from it fails for the same reason. What am I missing?
We are experiencing some issues with Linked Clone VMs that are stuck in reboot. This happens to random VMs. Anyone?
When attempting to enter maintenance mode:
From vCenter:
A general system error occurred: Connection reset by peer: The connection is terminated by the remote end with a reset packet. Usually, this is a sign of a network problem, timeout, or service overload.
Command line running:
esxcli system maintenanceMode set --enable true
I receive the error:
A general system error occurred: Broken pipe: The communication pipe/socket is explicitly closed by the remote service.

Hello!
vRA 6.2.
Service "VMware vCloud Automation Center Service" doesn't start automatically after rebooting the Windows Server though Startup Type is "Automatic".
Also iaas-service is blank instead of registered/failed. I've already faced with this problem and solved it with the updating of certificates on appliances and Windows machine, but this way takes enough time.
Why "VMware vCloud Automation Center Service" doesn't start automatically and how can I start iaas-service without manipulations with certificates?
Thanks a lot!
NSX 6.4.3 on vSphere 6.7, I would assume this is that same for NSX 6.4.x and vSphere 6.x
Given a proper auth Token and REST API Url to post a new NAT Rule to, what is the proper format for JSON as the body of the POST to create a new NAT Rule?
URL: https://<Server FQDN>/api/4.0/edges/<Edge Gateway Id>/nat/config/rules
Method: POST
Header Info:
ContentType: application/json
Accept: application/json
Authorization: AUTHTOKEN <AuthToken>
JSON Body:
{
"dnatMatchDestinationPort": "any",
"ruleTag": "70000",
"description": "NAT Rule 1",
"vnic": 0,
"originalAddress": "192.168.128.204",
"enabled": "true",
"translatedPort": "any",
"protocol": "any",
"loggingEnabled": "true",
"action": "dnat",
"dnatMatchSourceAddress": "any",
"translatedAddress": "192.168.10.4",
"originalPort": "any"
}
When we POST using this method we get this response:
{"errorCode":10050,"details":"Invalid input ''{0}'' provided for field {1}.","rootCauseString":"natRules","moduleName":"vShield Edge"}
We have tried wrapping that JSON Body under a Key: natRule and even adding that under a Key: natRules, i.e. {"natRules" : {"natRule": <above JSON Body>}}, regardless of what combination we have tried we continue to get the same response.
Also, we know about PowerNSX and use it. we are trying to create an Idempotent Script that will create or update based on whether the Object already exists and properties are different than requested and rather than use PowerNSX to create and some other method to update we want to use the same script, just change the method. JSON is much easier to work with and we want to avoid XML, we know XML works, the question is about JSON.
Hello,
We configured g a VMWare ESXi 6.5U2 server that hosts several VMs. The VMs are virtual machines running on various operating systems (Windows 7, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE). We wish to output the desktop of these multiple VMs through an nVidia video card with multiple video outputs through the VMWare shared GPU feature (i.e. one video card displaying multiple VMs to several monitors) .
Which nVidia video card model running with which video driver version will enable the shared GPU feature?
A long time ago we decided to build all our VM deployment blueprints in XaaS to provide flexible form functionality to filter data based on the requestor's information. That process in turn submits an IaaS request to build a VM. We'd like to simplify the process and use IaaS custom forms. I can do pretty much everything i currently do in my XaaS forms but i want to update the way in which users requests disks and NICs. Right now i have dedicated disk and NIC pages where the user optionally fills out information for 5 disks and 5 NICs. I wanted to consolidate this into a data grid element where the user could dynamically allocate the appropriate number of disks without me having to present and manage multiple individual disk rows in the form. The data grid element type presents me two issues and i wanted to see if anyone had a work around or suggestion to get my process working.
1. We provide several tiers of storage, we want the users to be able to select from a list of predefined options for the Storage Reservation Policy. IE: Gold, Silver, Bronze
2. We sell the different storage tiers in different block sizes and would like to step or iterate the size of disks in those block sizes based on the selected tier. IE: Gold = 20GB blocks, Silver = 100GB blocks, Bronze = 1000GB blocks.
We'd like to do something similar with the NICs section where the Network field is a drop down list generated by an external script that presents only networks that are defined in the vRA reservation assigned to the requestor's group in the defined datacenter field elsewhere in the form.
We have been having some issues with a new Dell server we purchased ST 7GWWHQ2. It is currently running ESXI 6.7.0 U1 but has been run into PSOD issues every couple weeks. We have gone through the dell hardware support which suggested it was an issue with Broadcom 57416 network card. Dell shipped us a replacement but that has not seemed to solve the issue. The PSOD seem to happen less frequently when we disable that card, but do not stop. Is there a way to determine if this is an issue with the hardware, or a bug in vmware?
