we are trying to lower the RAM guarantee in our allocation pool vDC's. In most of the cases that just does not work. Increasing does, but that is no surprise i guess. We get the error "There are insufficient memory resources to complete the operation. Please contact the System Administrator." In vCenter we get "Update child resource configuration. The available Memory resources in the parent resource pool are insufficient for the operation".
If we do it with all vApps turned off it works - but this is nothing special, too i guess. I think it happens if the running vm's have a memory reservation (in sum) that is higher than the RP's new memory reservation. Is there any way to work around this ? Like changing VM limits in vCenter ?
I would hate to ask our customers to shut down their vApps, just because we haave to adjust something....
