I am studying for the VCP exam and having trouble with the configuration maximums for the various components. My issue is that while I have all these numbers and figures, none of them seem to make any sense to me and so I don't remember them well.
Is there anywhere (or anyone) that explains why the various limitations exist? Like why is it that, with 128 Logical core limitation, you can only have 512 virtual CPUs per host, but they also state that a single core can have up to 25 vCPUs (which is way more than the 4-to-1 ratio previously stated)?
I understand the 2TB - 512B LUN size limit, the 512B required for VFS overhead. But why are VMFS and RDM limited at the same value? If I can expand a datastore beyond the single LUN size limit, and my guest file structure can support greater than 2TB - 512B sizes, what should vSphere care?
I know I may be asking a lot, and should just accept the numbers and move on. But for me, learning the reasons behind the numbers makes it infinitely easier to remember the numbers.
