Ok. I admit it, I failed. But at least I didn't ask for directions on the way to the exam.
I had a score of 246 and needed 300 to Pass. GRADE: FAIL
I too the Install, Configure, Manage course. Although at the time I knew little to nothing about VMware so much of the class flew over my head. I wish that I could retake it now.
I created a home lab with the following:
- Dell 2850 - ESXi Server
- Dell 2850 - Vcenter Server on Windows Server 2008
- Dell 1550 - OpenFiler
This is a good lab for some things but really hurt me on the questions that related to HA, FT, DRS etc... because the 2850 does not contain the VT chipset. I purchased the equipment before my my first course (mentioned above) without knowing the VT requirement. Looking back, I would have been better served to forgo the lab for more reading...
I tried all sorts of things to prepare for this test and at the end of the day, I was clearly not prepared. I did very well on the online test which is not a good indicator of the actual test.
I was surprised at some of the pick 2/3/4/ of 4/5/6 option questions. I passed on several without providing an answer and found my self scrambling to fill in an answer for each before time ran out.
Over the next 2 weeks, I plan to start at the top of the VCP4 Study Guide and get as far down as possible in 2 weeks. I will use this site: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsp40/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=install/c_esx_hw.html to help find details on each objective.
I will take the test again in 2 weeks...
