Running Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon in a WorkStation 7 guest?

I am having trouble getting Cinnamon to run properly in a 64 bit Linux Mint 13 cinnamon 64bit virtual machine on my Win7X64 host.

What happens is that Cinnamon does not start so it defaults to Gnome instead, with less control of the desktop.

The strange thing is that another guest running Linux Mint 15 works just fine including the Cinnamon features in the same host PC.

I have enabled 3D acceleration for the video in both 13 and 15 and I have installed the vmware tools with no problems on both.

It was suggested on the Mint forum that if the video driver is not 3D capable the Cinnamon desktop cannot run and it falls back to Gnome instead.

This fallback is what I see.

Question:

Has anyone here been successful in running Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon 64bit guests properly using WorkStation 7.1.6 on Windows 7???

If so were there any special actions to get it going? Like getting a Linux driver for the vmware virtual graphics card?

Grateful for any insight on this.

My thread on this in the Mint forum is here.
