VMWare 6.7 and WOL

0
0

Hello all,

I've just installed esxi 6.7 on a DELL Optiplex 9020m with Intel® I217LM Ethernet LAN 10/100/1000, and i can't use WOL and i've already configured BIOS and on vmware it seams ok.

Any ideas why this is not working? Could this be a version issue?

Regards,

Rui

Alert on Storage: Disk Drive Bay 1 Drive 7 to Drive 0: In Critical Array Current State: Assert

I had recently patched an esxi host runnng esxi version 5.5.0 378622 to Esxi version 5.5.0 5230635. The patching was done successfully. But after the patching I am seeing 9 alerts on my storage devices. It says that all drives are in Critical Array. I also don't have 8 disks attached. Could someone help me to resolve this issue.

I had attached the screenshot of this error below.

Thank you

Use Get-VIEvent to get ESXi host error events

Hello,

How can I retrieve only the 'error' events of a specific ESXi host?

I try the following command but it doesn't return a thing. Even with "Warning" as a type I have the same result. Only the type "Info" is returning some logs.

Get-VIEvent -Entity (Get-VMHost -Name "Myhost01") -Types Error

The Events that I want to retrieve are the ones that I can see when I select the Esxi host \ Task & Events \ Events.

Thank you in advance.

Remote Collector connection to vCenter

Hi All,

Please forgive my ignorance but I'm new to vROps and have scoured the internet and YouTube looking for an answer to my question with no luck.

First off I have deployed the Master Collector with no problems and added the vCenter adapters for other vCenters I want to collect data from.  I have a site we manage 800 miles away and so based on latency of greater than 5ms I understand that I need to use a remote collector.  I deployed a remote collector in that distant vCenter and it came online with no problems.  The master collector sees the remote collector but the remote collector isn't sending any data because I can't seem to figure out how I tell the remote collector the name of the remote vCenter and the credentials to use so it can pull the data and send back to the Master.

Am I misunderstanding how the remote collectors work?  I assumed that I would be able to configure it in a similar manner to how I setup the other vCenters that are in the same datacenter as the Master node.

Any insight would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Cannot type on a IBM System i terminal emulator while using vmware remotely connecting to my win 7 office desktop.

several of the users have complained that when using VMware to log in from home they cannot use the keyboard while using an IBM System i (AS400) 5250 terminal emulator.

The users are using VMware 4.10. They can connect to the network and the keyboard does work there, but when they start an IBM terminal emulator, they lose the keyboard in that window. This would be very similar to the user's question who was having trouble using PUtty and losing the keyboard.

One of our users downloaded VMware 4.3, and reports he has the functionality of his keyboard restored.

I, myself, cannot reproduce this problem from home, I am strictly a Linux users at home. On my 2 home computers with Ubuntu 16.4 LTS, using VMware 4.10, I do not have those issues with the keyboard while running IBM terminal emulation.

Help would be appreciated. Is there a configuration item in 4.10? Is there a work-around? I don't want to tell my uses that they must all downgrade.

Blast is still trash and PCoIP is stagnant

We've been searching for upgraded monitor configurations with the proliferation of higher resolution larger screens and finding that we are severely limited due to blast being useless and Zero/Thin client support for multiple high resolution monitors pretty limited.  The best we've found is the 10zig 1200-qpd. But it can't even drive 3 2560x1440 and does 0 4k ...

What are people doing? Is blast ever going to stop being laggy? We use grid

How to access the Lab set up of VMware Workstation on Internet?

0
0

Hi,

There are five types of Network Connections; Bridged, NAT, Host-only, Custom and LAN segment; in VMware Workstation.

Using LAN Segment network connection, I setup Windows Server 2016 AD Lab. I assigned static IP like 10.0.0.1 to Windows Server 2016 AD and setup DHCP also. There are two computers (Windows 10) in the same LAN Segment and both computers are added in the domain.

Currently the Lab setup is working fine and because of LAN Segment there is no internet connection in the Lab.

I believe using Custom Network Connection, the lap can be accessed on Internet. I request all members please explain the steps so that I can access the lap on Internet.

Also let me know, how to access the Internet in the Lab?

The Host Computer is connected with a Wi-Fi router (TP-Link AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Router (Archer C50)) for Internet connection through a wired connection. And WAN Connection type is PPPoE.

Update Guest OS VM Template

Hi Guys, I have a doubt about what is the best way to maintain Guest OS VM templates always updated. I think some schedules tasks like convert a template to VM, update guest with other task like WSUS or VCM Patching and convert that VM to template again. How can I schedule that conversion using an Orchestrator automated workflow? Does anyone have a script or suggestion???

Regards!!!

Conversion Failed at 98% internal error

Hello,

I realise this may seem like an old chestnut, and I feel as if I have read dozens of threads on the subject, but not actually found any solution that worked for me.

I am using vCenter 6.2.0 on Windows 7 32 bit. Having bought a new PC I'd like to have the old one run in a VM on the new PC.

Every time I run the conversion of my C drive it fails at about 98%.

The wsappx process in Win 10 Enterprise 1709 VM is generating high CPU usage. The VM has the Horizon 7.4 agent installed and is part of a Horizon 7 VDI infrastructure. I must also note that we are using Linked Clones. This high CPU utilization is causing the VM to be unusable.

I also went ahead and did the dosfsck repair /altbootbank partition but the dosfsck unfortunately doesn't completes.I receive Connection timed out. I want to upgrade my host but I am seeing the same error again.

Is it possible to clear the /altbootbank partition.

How can I upgrade from this version without compromising any of the vm's on that host

Slow cluster to cluster migration speeds

0
0

I am helping a customer migrate multiple sites where they are upgrading hardware. The new hardware is preinstalled and my team is coming in after and migrating the vm’s from old to new hardware. We are doing cluster to cluster cold migrations. Cluster 1 (old hardware) is usually 1 gig mgmt connections and 10 gig iscsi or 8G FC storage with tiered storage. 1 gig (usually 8 link LAG)/10 gig top of rack switches to the router. It depends on the site. Cluster 2 (new hardware) 10 gig network for everything and iscsi all flash storage. 10 gig top of rack switches to the router.  Jumbo is not on anywhere but the new cluster iSCSI network. 1500 MTU on everything else. Old and new management are on different VLANs/subnets. We are seeing 50-60 Mbs speeds with 1 gig and 10 gig . Never saturating the 1 gig links anywhere in the path.

Since the migrations are cluster to cluster and storage is not shared we know that the vm’s are moving through the management network. The first couple sites we did, we were a little surprised to see how long it took to migrate the vm’s. It took 1 hour + for most vm’s. For example a 100 gig vm might take 2 hours to move. We originally thought that since the vm was thick provisioned and on tier 3 (7.2k NL drives) that was the reason for the slowness. We moved it to tier 1 (15k SAS drives) storage and and migrated it forcing thin provision. This took some time off but still not what we were expecting.

So we finally get a site that is 10 gig backbone and all connections were 10 gig. So we thought this should be a breeze and we still saw the same slowness. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Let me know if you need more info.

UAG 3.2.1 - Radius Prompts for token first

Hi,

I'm using UAG 3.2.1 for radius authenticated external connections into our Horizon 7.5.0 environment.

Does anyone know if its possible to be prompted for AD credentials first, followed by RADIUS passcode, rather than RADIUS username and passcode then AD creds?

Long story, but our users are used to being prompted this way for other systems access, so it's a big issue.

It looks like I have to setup a whole Identity Manager environment to facilitate this where you simply specify the order, ie password, Radius.

Thanks,

Matt

Alert "virtual disks that need consolidation" in a VCD environment

I'm a complete Noob when it comes to VCD, never used it before, but I've been tasked into consolidating the disks for a particular virtual machine. Can someone link me to any documentation on how to fix this issue? I'm assuming because VCD is involved that I cannot do what I normally do, which is to log into the vCenter and storage migrate the VM to release locks then run the consolidate command.

Thanks
