Hi,

I want to browse a Datastore and return all files  in Array variable.

I found vcHostDatastoreBrowser, VcHostDatastoreBrowserSearchResults

But I'v no idea how to use them.

Can you please give me an exemple to use this object or other exemple to browse my datastore .

Thanks

Can't grow VMFS Datastore

Hello

I wanted to expand the Datastore because it's running out of free space and the raid1 where it resides had about 50 GB unasigned (I let those 50 GB unused when I initially created the VMFS)

Since I couldn't do it on the GUI (ncrease datastore capacity greyed out), I followed this instructions to do it on the CLI: https://michlstechblog.info/blog/esxi-expand-datastore-from-command-line/

I could expand the partition and all went well until the part of growing the VMFS.

Initial part:

[root@esx:~] partedUtil get /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000

30377 255 63 488017920

1 128 364644400 0 0

[root@esx:~] partedUtil getUsableSectors /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000

34 488017886

[root@esx:~] partedUtil resize /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000 1 128 488017886

[root@esxi:~] vmkfstools -V

If I do as described, using the partition indicator ":1", I get a "not found" message.

I if remove the ":1" from the second argument (destination?), I get a "Failed to get info from head device path"

[root@esx:/dev/disks] vmkfstools --growfs /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1

[root@esx:/dev/disks] vmkfstools --growfs /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000

Failed to get info from head device path /dev/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000.

Error: No such file or directory

I'm stucked here and don't know what to do

The partition size is 232 GB but the Datastore is only 173 GB,,,

Could you help me???

Thanks in advance.

low vmotion speed transfer between esxi hosts

Hello,

Can anyone help me with the following problem.

In VmWare Vsphere the migration of only the virtual machine (without datastore migration) between the esxi hosts reaches a maximum of 120000 Kbps. It does not matter if I migrate

one machine or many. Network monitor chart during migration on the assigned vmotion tab shows constans 120000 Kbps.

I feel like the card was set to 100Mb, and it is not (it is 1Gbps)

Hosts are equipped with 1Gb and esxi cards see vmnic 1000 Full Duplex. As for hardware, I have servers in the chassis blade. There are 1Gb switches.

Where to find the reason?

Thank you in advance,

How to change disk setting 'thick lazy zeroed' to 'eager zeroed thick' by command line (Linux) or API (pyvmomi) from outside of an ESX ?

Hi,

I use Ansible 2.6 and pyvmomi 6.7.0 to create some vm via vSphere 6.0.0.

When I resize disk, I loose 'eager zeroed thick' disk setting.

What is the simplest way to get back to this setting remotly (not from esx server) via API or a Linux command line ?

I prefer another solution than ssh to esx server, then using 'vmkfstool -d zeroedthick...'

Regards.

Failure to install Final Cut Studio on Lion VM

Because I miss Soundtrack Pro sometimes, or even DVD Studio Pro, when a client requests a DVD (which is admittedly rare, but does happen from time to time), I got it into my head to try to install a Lion VM on my new MacBook Pro 2018 (macOS 10.14.2, i9, 32GB, Vega 20) in order to be able to run FCP Studio 3 on it.

The Lion install went pretty much without a hitch, and it was nice to see the old Lion Desktop wallpaper again, after so many years.

But when I try to run the Final Cut Studio installer, I get this error message:

screenshot_10.png

Why would that be, and how to fix it?

I assigned first 512MB to the virtual graphics card, then tried 256MB...turned off all the extra virtual GPU stuff (3D acceleration, virtualisation, etc.), but no flowers.

If anyone could help me get through this road-block, or around it, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Connect/Disconnect loop with vmware workstation pro 15 and esxi 6.5 on VM guest

Hi all,

i've a little problem with my windows 10 x64 guest on ESXI 6.5, i managed this with vmware workstation pro 15 for the usb passthrough capacity of the soft.

My lab is an unsupported lab, my esxi work on msi X370 pro gamin carbon motherboard, it's work, just the thermal probe monitoring problem but i do with this, it's for personnal works so...

i trying to passthrough an xbox one controller from my latitude d630 laptop where vmware workstation is installed on my windows 10 vm guest, it's work when i plugged the controller with a usb 2.0 cable but with the official cable (3.0 cable), controller performs a connect/disconnect loop on vmware workstation when i connect it on the vm guest.

I tried the "usb.quirks.device0" solution, not work, and i tried to add a usb 3.0 controller on the vm setting, not work also.

i supposed than my dell latitude d630 with 2.0 usb port only can not work properly because the laptop not have a 3.0 controller.

However the controller work properly directy on the laptop with the official cable...

somebody can explain me a solution on this problem or i will have to buy some 2.0 cable to execute the passthrough ?

i copy the loop event on vmware.log here, if can be useful :

When I try to run an Ubuntu 18.10 64-bit installation iso file on Workstation Player 15 running on a Windows 10 64-bit Preview Build 18298 host,

Windows reboots with no error message. I checked Event Viewer and nothing shows up. VT-x is active and I tried both with VT-x virtualized and not.

No change.

No support from vmware during trial?

I am trialling workstation pro 15. I wanted to ask vmware about some basics via support ticket. But as far as I can tell vmware doesn't offer support for trial products. Am I right about this or is there a way to ask vmware support about features and config? I don't want the trial to be used up while I'm still fiddling with basic questions.

Is vmware workstation pro the product I'm looking for, or...?

My main workstation currently runs virtualbox vms. In the event of a failure I would like to have the option to restore my workstation to a vm in case of hardware issues. But hypver-v, my planned on restore as vm host, does not support vms inside of a vm, so the virtualbox vms won't work inside my restored as vm workstation.

I am considering running those virtualbox vms on another pc so that access to them is not dependent on my main workstation. For various reasons I am considering using vmware workstation instead of virtualbox. I could install vmware workstation pro on a separate pc and remote in to that pc to access the vms, but that seems a bit awkward in comparison to the more direct vm sessions I'm used to with virtualbox, where they are running as vms right on my workstation pc.

Can anyone suggest another approach that might fulfill my interest? That is, running the vms on a distinct pc, but having them manifest on my main workstation as if they were running on vmware workstation pro?

Datastore Not Freeing Up Space After Deleting VM

I have a VMFS 6 datastore on ESXi 6.5 that is 9.1 TB in size. I had a large VMDK that I was using to store files that was about 9.0 TB and I transferred the files elsewhere and then removed that VM. When browsing the file directory of the datastore it shows two other VMs that I still have in there that are about 35 GB each in size which is good, but the datastore overall says there is only about 30 GB free when it should say there is about 8 TB free.

Is there a manual process that needs to be run that will tell the datastore that files were deleted and there is free space now?

Hi all

I`ve got a VM that is out of space and the challenge now I can`t logon on it so that I can free up some space and I can`t expand the disk because that option its inactive "Greyed out" and I can`t migrate the VM to another Datastore because there is no other datastores can accommodate this VM in terms of space. its got the following error "msg hbacommon.outospace: there is no more space for virtual disk tash-file 1-000002.vmdk. you might be able to continue this session by freeing disk space on the relevant volume." I`m in a crisis because my terminal users can`t work now because this VM its file server

I'm a instructor at a Community College where we use use ESXi (6.7.0 Update 1 Build 10764712) for IT training. I'm attempting to execute a .sh file to "patch" ESXi to allow installing macOS. I did this last week on the same hardware and ESXi build and the script executed correctly & macOS 13.4.3 installed 100%. Attempting to run the same script today on several servers fails with the error message shown below. (screenshot file attached)

-sh: ./esxi-install.sh: Operation not permitted

The script and parent folder have permissions -rwxr-xr-x (0755). And I am attempting to run the script at root or as myself with the Administrator role assigned. Using my "good" server as a reference I can't find any difference between servers.

What am I missing? Seems like a straight-forward error msg. But I am stuck!

Thanks for your help,

Storage vMotion failure

Hi,

I'm having trouble with host and storage vMotion of a very large VM (20 TB+) from one cluster to another under the same vCenter.

Migration fails in the final stage. It copies the entire VM across and when it tries to cutover the VM from source and destination it fails with the following error:

vMotion migration failed to read stream keepalive: Connection closed by remote host, possibly due to timeout.

Failed waiting for data. Error 195887167. Connection closed by remote host, possibly due to timeout.

The error I'm seeing in vmware.log is

2018-12-21T17:10:23.596Z| vcpu-0| W110: SVMotionDisconnectMirrorNode: Some guest IOs failed for device 189ba837d-ffffffffffffffff-svmmirror during disk copy: I/O error. Failing storage vMotion.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

ESXi 6.5.0 Update 2 (Build 8294253) Randomly Freezing or Locking Up

I have a standalone ESXi host, not connected to vCenter, that randomly locks up or freezes.  It can go a few days or a few weeks between lock ups.  When it locks up I am unable to ping the host, the VM running on the host, and when I plug a keyboard into the physical machine I get no response from keystrokes.  Even the num lock key won't light up when pressed.  The only way to get it back online is to do a hard reboot, push the power button on the physical machine.

I have attached the VMKernel log file.

VSAN Network with DVS IP hash issue

Hi Guys,

VSAN Network with DVS IP hash issue

Im using 2 * 10 GB NICs for VSAN network.

DVS with IP hash Load balancing(2 NICs are active/active) and rest all are default option only. There is no Beacon probing enabled.

In DVS side,we have not created any LAG as of now.

In physical Nexus Cisco switches side,we have configured static etherchannel(LACP)not dynamic etherchannel.

Fist 10 G NIC is connected to One Cisco Nexus physical switch and another one 10 G NIC is connected to another Cisco Nexus physical switch.

Testing phase:-

When we shutdown any one interface from first physical Cisco Nexus switch(connected with ESXi VMNIC4),traffic is going through another Cisco Nexus switch(connected with ESXi VMNIC5) and it sometimes it is not going through(it is intermittent issue) and vice versa.

When we shudown both the interfaces from 2 Cisco Nexus switchs(VMIC4 and VMNIC5) and enable it back,I keep on getting some Network error as "VSAN cluster paritioned" It is intermittent issue and im able to ping each other ESXi server IP address explicitly through VSAN network.

To troubleshoot further(as a temporary),when i enable back the DVS LB as "Virtual port id" from IP hash, VSAN cluster paritioned is cleared and everything is showing as green in VSAN cluster Network side(in Monitor tab).

I dont know where the problem is ? I was reading some ESXi logs to identify but no luck.

If i introduce LAG for DVS,it will fix this issue ?

When we use static etherchannel from Physical switch side,LAG is mandatory from DVS side(VMware side) ?

Any suggestions or ideas ?

Thank you,

Vsan:

VSphere 6.5

Can't connect to management network on new install - Cisco 3850 w/LACP

When we install a host at our organization, it's straight forward - install ESXI, configure the management network (accessible over two CNA cards in a ProLiant G9), connect to the environment and then move the NIC's over to the LAG's utilizing the same CNA cards.

We are now attempting to do the same thing on a new Cisco 3850 (in our PCI zone) with vSAN hosts.  Switch is a 24 port with RJ45 10 gig jacks with an SFP module - server is connected to the module.  Networking guys indicate the setup on the ports is the same as all the other servers - however, we cannot connect to the management network unless we disable LACP on these ports (which will not work for us as we only use these CNA cards).

Anyone else run into a similar situation at all?  We can't identify why we cannot connect at all, as the setup is the same for all our other hosts.
